Amazon grills review/photo

Wanted to swap the oem grills for some gloss black. Took a shot on amazon.. $50 shipped.

Everything lined up perfect and looks no different then oem

I typically buy bmw brand but I mean 50 bucks or 96 per grill………

Did Amazon double slat and bought the IND paint matched camera trim to separate the two. They've held up perfect.

Looks great. I tried one of the Amazon offerings and I did not like the fit. It clipped in fine and looked fine, I could just feel them wobble in the clips every time I washed the car. Bugged the shit out of me and felt cheap so I returned them. I went with OEM ///M-Performance Gloss Black Grills. I think I paid $150 bucks. I'm a little OCD though and I do prefer OEM if reasonable.

Thought about the double slat look but even if they don't interfere with the active grills (a lot do), I just think there is too much going on with double slats plus all the active slats behind it. Looks awesome on the M5 that is was meant for which does not have active grills.

These one don’t wiggle. I mean there’s a bunch on Amazon but these specific brand felt pretty darn good. If anyone every wants the brand I can locate it. The seller store.
But I totally get what you mean! Double slats look nice I had them on my 335i but I liked the single more on this particular car I went back and forth for days trying to decide lol

Haha, you are speaking to the choir on procrastination over grills. I think I went through four grills before the ///M performance grill. Car came with the cerium OEM grill. It was the only cerium bit on the car I didn’t like. I’m fine with the side vents, bumper trim and mirrors, but the cerium around the grill made it look like it protruded. Lincoln-ish. I went with RW Carbon overlays for a few months to match my CF spoiler. Didn’t love the fit of the overlay. Then I bought a carbon fiber complete grill off Amazon. The weave didn’t match the spoiler, so I returned that. Bought the Amazon gloss black I mentioned that wiggled, returned that and settled in on the ///M Performance Grill. I definitely have issues! This one is definitely a keeper. Fits perfect and looks great.

Glad to hear your grill fits well and doesn’t wiggle.

Thanks, I did the LCI tails. Easily the most impactful mod I did, to me anyway.

How much time did it take you? Having done about zero mods so far, would you recommend doing this as a first?

First thing I did when I got the car was Dinan tune it about a month after delivery. A few months later I did the LCI's. LCI's would be the first thing I would do. Just my opinion, but they look so much fresher and current.

Yeah the tail lights look awesome. It’s deff on my list.
Did you do the dinan piggy back or flash? I looked at the dinan piggy back and the jb4

I normally would flash tune but I was skeptical since it under bmw warranty. Just in case anything happens I don’t want to be screwed

Piggyback for similar reasons. Dinan backs the factory warranty and it's also removable without a trace vs. an ECU tune or bench flash.

Exactly. Did you do the dinan x?
How do you like it? It looked pretty legit with the Bluetooth control

I did the one before they replaced it with the Dinan X. It was called Dinantronics. No Bluetooth, just plug it in. It was a lot more expensive than the new X, but the one I have results in more HP than the X. I like it, but to be honest, I should have waited a few months before I did it. I had the car for like two weeks and I slapped it in. I didn't really have a solid "before" sample. Cars a beast so I assume it works well, lol. I'm around 3.6 0-60 and that's more than fine for me.

New Owner '18 540d xDrive - advice needed

I am planning to replace the chrome trim around the black, double slatted grills, the chrome 'boomerang' trim on each front fender and, if possible, the chrome trim on each door handle. Everything that is now chrome would be black (except the trim around the windows).

I have been following this thread and am a bit confused regarding where to source all this stuff with aftermarket parts where fitment and durability is pretty close to OEM without the $$$$.

I would appreciate your recommendations about sourcing these parts and advice regarding what I may be leaving out or not considering.

Thanks,

Steve

I’m not sure where to get the parts for your chrome trim, you may have to wrap them unless you bought aftermarket.

The frills I used were $60 shipped with amazon. I’ll provide a link of the exact ones I bought. Hope that helps!
