17 inch wheels in the UK - space saver?

I have standard 17 inch wheels on my already ordered car which is a UK spec 520 SE. Will I be forced to have the space saver and the dramatic reduction in boot space that this brings. Dont want it!

Thanks

Not sure about the UK but here in Ireland I got 17'' wheels and the car came with a repair kit - no spare. You can't lift the boot floor.

If you do get a spacesaver spare wheel, it will be under a removable false floor and above the "real" boot floor, so I imagine it should be possible to remove it anyway and restore the full boot space.

Personally, I'd much rather have the spare wheel.

If mine comes with it you are welcome to it! The boot looks tiny with it.

I think that you will find that in the UK the 520d SE comes as standard with the BMW Mobility System (Compressor & Bottle of Tyre Sealant).

You have the option to spec a Space-saver Spare Wheel for £245 and this will include a plastic fitment tray and I assume a Jack/Wheel brace!

The 530e iPerformance only comes with Run-flat tyres because any Space-saver fitted would take up a space already reduced by the battery.

Weird. I didn't realise the 520d se had no option for runflats. Why would they do that? Like it's not even an option. My e61 520d se came with runflats...

The brochure that I looked at shows the option of 18" 19" and 20" wheels on the 520d SE and all of these are on Run-flat tyres. The cheapest is an extra £995.

However, early indications are that the 520d Efficient Dynamics, when it arrives, will have the 18" Run-flats as standard, with no option for ordinary tyres!

If true, this means that the difference in price between the two cars, is mainly accounted for by the bigger wheels!

On the UK configurator it forces you to check the space saver if you dont select 18 inch wheels. If you uncheck it the configurator requires you to add 18" wheels. This was what made me think I was going to get a space saver

Oh of course. The price list won't have an option for 'run-flat' coz that's a feature of a tyre selection not an independent thing.

According to the March 2017 price list, the 520d Efficient Dynamics has 18" wheels with non-runflat tyres.

It's option 6WT, whereas exactly the same 18" 619 rims with runflats is 6WS.

So with 17 inch wheels will I be forced to have a space saver in the boot which reduces the luggage compartment capacity from 530 to 390 litres?

I would rather have the small mobility kit (sealant and compressor) than lose 140 litres of boot space.

Anyone got any experiences of this? Or photos of the boot with spare wheel in it?

Not if they are runflat I guess.

As per the answer further up the thread, even if you do get the spacesaver, you can remove it and the false boot floor and hey presto you are back to the original bootspace.

On my order the configurator forced me to select the spare wheel option as I had stock 17 inch non run flats.

When the car turned up there was no spare wheel, just the air inflator and sealant.

No loss of boot space and I can always replace with run flats (although why would you as the ride is really good without them)
