Spotify iDrive app not displaying titles in HUD

I have a Galaxy S10+ connected via Bluetooth. The iDrive Spotify app works however the HUD displays only "Loading". It never displays song titles nor can I select next/previous track. Anyone else with same issue or anyone have suggestions?

This is both on a 2017 and 2019 G30. The 2017 has firmware P and 2019 has Q. Same issue on both.

I don't use Spotify, but just trying to help out here. Have you tried reaching out to Spotify to see if it's on their end? Has it always said 'loading' in the HUD or was it ever working previoulsy?

Never worked in HUD. 2 cars both iDrive 6 with different idrive firmware levels. Tried different phones too, iPhone and Android, same issue.

I did search Spotify forums and I'm not the only one complaining about this. Seems BMW and Spotify are pointing fingers at each other.

Maybe one days they'll fix it. For now, I've decided to use only Bluetooth and Spotify app through phone.

Maybe when iDrive firmware R comes out... If it ever does.

Thanks so much for trying to help.

Yeah, this is a Spotify issue across multiple car brands (and aftermarket head unit brands as well). Spotify and BMW are pointing fingers are each other for sure; but I personally think BMW is the correct one in this instance.

One of many threads in the Spotify forums - they tend to "resolve" the complaints by just referring people back to BMW, Audi, Kenwood, etc.

It's been nearly a year since this problem started up, and in the last two updates I now can't even get the in-app menus to work in Spotify on either of my phones. Spotify have proven they have no interest in actually fixing their app, so I have cancelled my Family Premium subscription as of today. Quite happy with a mix of Amazon, Deezer, Google Play, and SiriusXM now.

In the car I have to connect by normal bluetooth and don't get the album art and such (aside from SXM of course), but at least it actually works consistently.

speaking of SiriusXM, what's the "best" one can get regarding to 1 year full access after the 1 year period expired

I've negotiated ~$70/yr for everything. Sometimes it takes persistence. In one case I had to follow through with cancelling then 30 days later they chased me down.

I just despise SiriusXM because it sounds horrible. Way too much compression. Perfectly fine for talk and news, but otherwise painful to listen to. Music is about on par with AM Stereo (if any of you remember when they tried to make that a thing)

Maybe that's why BMW went to separate iDrive apps for IDrive7?

I have a love/hate relationship with Spotify. More love and that's why I haven't cancelled. Amazon Prime music is promising... Better audio quality but Spotify has a better interface and prebuilt mixes....

I don't mind SXM that much re: quality, though it's absolutely noticeable even when I just switch to HD Radio. On longer drives it would annoy me, but also on longer drives I'm more willing to spend the few seconds fiddling with Bluetooth.

Spotify was just completely unusable in both my cars from the start and then recently became unusable directly on the phone, too. The prebuilt mixes were just OK for me so no huge loss there.

I actually was using Google Play a lot anyway b/c I listen to some stuff that isn't readily available on the major services, but which I had uploaded to my personal library years ago.

Anyway, different equation for everyone. For me, Spotify was pretty much all frustration and no value. The only thing it had going for it was the native interface, but since that never worked...

There is a workaround for this. If you actually open Spotify app on Idrive in Media tab, it will start showing the song titles

Ha. Yes, it shows songs on the iDrive screen but not the HUD. Appreciate the thought, but not a workaround.

I'm also talking about HUD, I see loading unless open the Spotify app.

Well lookie there. Wow. Mine displays loading on any/all screens.

What phone do you have? I have galaxy s10+ on Android 10 beta. And I'm connected via Bluetooth.

Did your car have a software update recently at dealer? And is it a 2019 or earlier? 2020 IDrive 7 cars are different because they have baked in apps.

Mine's 2019 with ID6. Didn't have a software update. I had Samsung s8 before, now iPhone 11. They both behave the same. Basically what happens, after I start the car iDrive connects to the phone through Bluetooth and starts playing music automatically from Spotify, but I see loading in HUD. Then I click media button and from the list I see it's connected to my phone via Bluetooth. Also I have a Spotify app in there, so I click on Spotify app, music stops for a few seconds, feels like it's starting it's own app installed on iDrive, but after it starts I can still control the music from my phone and also see the titles in HUD

Doesn't work with my Galaxy S10+. All I get is "loading" even when running the iDrive Spotify app

Rejoice! Received a Spotify (Android) update today that seems to have finally fixed the HUD "loading" issue. V8.5.47.1006.

Hoping it doesn't break itself again.

After reading this I went and updated the Spotify app to that version and can confirm that it's fixed. Let's see how long it lasts!

Does the Spotify app show all songs in a playlist in the HUD and allow scrolling through them?

If you're running iDrive 6, Spotify integration is gone.

I should have mentioned this but I am on iOS. I just got a flash done to move to id6 from id4. I still get the enhanced Spotify app experience in Idrive - I can see and search my playlists etc in I drive. This seems to be more than just plain Bluetooth.

Now about the hud. I remember that I was also able to scroll songs in the hud with Spotify just like I am with Apple Music. Or maybe I got that wrong. Now after the flash to id6 I can do this for Apple Music but for Spotify it only lets me done previous and next track.
