When i have entered a destination into NAV and viewing the map...

and i switch to media to choose an album,

when i press nav next to idrive dial on centre console to get back to map i am instead greeted by a text menu - it is as if the ui designers think its more likely i want to change my destination rather than just show the current map..


there are two ways to get back to map directly
1. speech recognition "show map"
2. touch screen click on map

(a bit cumbersome)

is there a way to configure the nav button to default to show map? seems like odd design and maybe i am missing something obvious.

Back button should do the trick

I have two buttons next to the iDrive dial/controller "MAP" and "NAV". If you hit Map then you're always taken back to the full screen map. If you hit NAV you're taken to navigation with the menu popped out to get ready for you to enter somewhere to go.

You sound like you want to hit MAP instead of NAV.

[facepalm] well thats embarassing. thanks for help. so used to previous 5 series didnt look.
