255/40/19 + 285/35/19 or 295/35/19?

Hi guys,

I have G30 540ix. I'm getting 19" wheels -> 19/8.5 ET 25 front and 19/10 ET41 back. I'm planning to go up from 245/275 and planned 255/295 (better grip - I run fairly big power). But some people told me to rather stick with 255/285s as its closer to 245/275 stock.

Now reason why I lean towards 255/295 is that they are 1mm closer in diameter (circumference). And being an xDrive I was told closer is better.

See here:
255/295s -> the backs are 1.25mm taller
255/285s -> the backs are 2.25mm smaller

This means 255/295 is closer in size than 255/285 by 1mm. However, it makes it also so that the backs are larger than fronts unlike stock xDrive where 245/275 on 19s have backs smaller by 1.75mm (here).

What do you guys recommend and why? THANKS A TON!

Not sure that you can fit 295 on the 9'' oem rims

My G30 (540i xDrive M Sport) came with OEM staggered wheels/tires in the sizes of (front) 245/35-20 and the (rear) 275/30-20. Recently, purchased a brand new set of wheels/tires with (front) 20x9 and the (rear) 20x10. I went with (front) 255/35-20 and the (rear) 285/30-20 for my new wheels/tires setup. Although, I was told (front) 245/35-20 would work as well....but. due to great deal on these 255/35-20 for the front, I decided to pull the lever.

Various wheels/tires specialists and companies highly recommended the rear 285/30-20 fitment due to xDrive system, and the width of my new aftermarket (rear 20x10) wheels. However, I know for a fact that some G30 (non xDrive) owners out there are using 295/35-20 though.

I see - I'm trying to figure out if they recommend this purely because 30 is a gap stock BMWs roll with - e.g. 245/275s or because its closest in size. E.g. 245/275 19s the backs are smaller by 1.75mm and if you put 245/285 the back would be bigger by 1.75mm so technically its a toss - unless xdrive prefers smaller backs?

On 255/285s 19s however backs are smaller by 2.25mm whilst 255/295 backs are bigger by 1.25mm so its 1mm closer hence why unless xdrive likes smaller backs, this should be better Im thinking

The M5 xdrive tire sizes seem pretty conservative with a 285 rear. I'm assuming there is a reason for that
