My M550i has the Mocha luxury seats with ventilation and massage.
I don't find them blowing hot air, it is definitely is a benefit from the first minute in a hot car and keeps your back from getting wet on long trips. I would guess black seats could be worse.

I like the massage function for my bad back but I feel the bladders make the seats much firmer than non-message seats. At times it feels they don't fully deflate after use. Be aware of that.

I agree. I was returning from a round of golf yesterday when the temperature had risen to more than 110 degrees Fahrenheit. I was, of course, sweaty and I turned on the ventilation and it did help. My experience has been that in normal driving, I can't feel it; but if I have been exercising, then I can feel it and it does help. Not AC seats but better than nothing.

Agree, after golf is when I feel the ventilation the most, but I do feel it in the Texas heat. For those concerned about it, the bolsters are adjustable, BTW. But they are not as good as the active bolsters in the Mercedes. I would not order a five series without the luxury seating option.

In 2 years I'd never taken a good pic of the interior until recently. Here's the Mocha Nappa luxury seating. I had just washed the car but hadn't gotten to the interior and floor mats.

I think the sports seats are extremely good if not better than the luxury seats. They remind me of the excellently supportive Volvo seats. BMW did a fantastic job on these seats. I feel I am supported throughout my body when driving enthusiastically and they promote a comfortable driving posture when cruising. I have no problem adjusting the 16 way power seats to a position that fits me. The Dakota leather is similar to the leather in Volvos too. It is soft and textured but feels thick, supple, and long wearing. I believe it is enhanced top grain leather. Most of all I like the feel of the seat supporting my head, torso, and thighs. It's like sitting in one of those vintage hand shaped chairs. When the seat belt tightens up you feel very secure and cradled. The luxury seats remind me of the vintage first class airline seats. They look big and flat but some same they are comfortable. The leather looks thin too but it is less processed even though it manages to look stiff.

Their back support is phenomenal. Also the headrests. Better than multi contour in some cases.
But, I find that their thigh and butt support is too firm. Overbolstered around the edges with a deep dip in the middle.
I wish they would combine the sport seat backs with the multicontour bases..that would be best.

But to each their own, my only advice is that people are aware of the two different seat options and TRY them out before buying. Too many "off the lot" leases running around with clueless people.
