I just ordered to the OBDLink MX+ from Amazon to be able to use Bimmercode on my iPhone. It should be delivered tomorrow via Prime.

I received the OBDLink MX+. After downloading the Bimmercode app on my iPhone, it was a simple task to set the ASS button status to stay in the last mode when the car is shut off and then restarted. It works great.

I think that my next mod will be turning off the fake engine sound that is piped through the stereo system.

I am going to try turning off the fake engine noise that is piped through the stereo system.

Oh no!!! You know the car will slow down if you do that......or, at least you'll think it did.

It does as Auto Start Stop is just the ability to turn off the ICE engine while the car is still running. It is not painful in the plug-in hybrid because BMW will only turn off the ICE when the Hybrid Battery & Electric Motor has enough juice to take over. So for the 530e it feels like you never have the negative aspects of Auto Start-Stop that users complain about (slow acceleration as the engine turns back on, loss of AC, etc).

Thanks. I don't think of that as ASS since a motor is still running but, as to the ICE, it is.

BTW...our cars are pretty similarly configured. I love the Nappa leather; I really disliked the Dakota.

I was able to stop this function by entering comfort choices in my sport individual settings. Then select sport individual to drive free of auto stop.

I don't, but I do have experience with a similar system on my wife's 2021 AMG GLE 53, and it is seamless and fantastic. Never even think of turning it off. Also, no starter sound, even when starting up in the morning. Pretty innovative, if you ask me.

On 2021 540 mild hybrid improved auto start/stop. I wouldn't call it 100% seamless. You still feel the car's vibration. You will be aware when the system engages, but it is absolutely non intrusive. You can creep up slowly towards the car in front of you at the red light curtesy of the 48V battery, once the light changes and you accelerate engine will kick in.

In short, its much better than before. I have no need to switch it off like I always did in 540 MY18. Switch it off via the sport individual workaround in MY21 that is.

sounds like a good improvement, I have 2019 (so way before mild hybrid) I drive in comfort mostly (wife+kid...), so it's just a routine now, turn on engine, disengage auto start/stop...

I was very disappointed upon just taking delivery of a 2021 540 to find that there was no button to turn the auto stop/start off. Thankfully, I read this forum and set my Sport settings to Comfort.

My wife who is the actual driver, told me that it kept shutting off. Everytime I drove it, it worked without shutting off. Until Today. It was set on Sport and at a stop light, I noticed that it had switched to Comfort. I had grabbed my phone which was in the charging cradle, so I thought maybe I had hit Comfort by accident. But that was not the case, as it did it a few more times and both hands were on the steering wheel. Any Ideas?

Simply set your sport individual to all comfort settings, and you should no longer have stop start.

Do you have different profiles for yourself and your wife?

I have a 2021 540i. Thanks to this forum I programmed Sport Individual to all comfort settings so it mimics comfort mode without the start/stop. It's not as convenient to have the button down low vs. right next to the engine on/off button but muscle memory has come into play so now it's just automatic.

Compared to the other Start/Stop systems out there, this is by far the best implementation I've driven. While I thought I'd try to disable it when I first got it, I really don't mind it any more. If I know I don't want the engine cut off or I know I'm going to move right away, I just knock it into manual with the shift knob or paddles. Much easier than trying to find the sport mode button. Not to mention I average 29.8 MPG on this car. Love the mild-hybrid.
