Anybody with experience with 20" wheels in LA?

I'm currently in a 2018 540i with 19's. Almost 3 years on shitty LA roads and no issues with bent wheels or blow outs. I've gone over some pretty nasty pot holes too. I'm now looking at 2021's and really want the 20's. I know the ride quality is pretty close to the 19's. My biggest concern is damage. Anybody in LA proper with experience with the 20's? I know I can get the insurance but it's more about the inconvenience of having to bring the car in all the time. Thx in advance.

The ride quality of the 20s are bad, really. The tire is paper thin and you will bend your rims in a small pot hole. I had 12 blowouts and 4 bent rims during my 30 month ownership of my M550 in Atlanta.

I wanted to get 20s but this happened to me the other day (LA also), i was hoping that ride on 20s + NON run-flat tires will be similar to 19s + run-flats and after this there's no way.

I've had 20" run flats on both my 2017 X5 and 2019 M550 in LA. I had my first blowout in literally 2 weeks ago. Had to get a new tire.

Honestly, I think both cars looked better with 20's and considering I've only replaced one tire in almost 4 years, it's worked out so far.

I have 20" 668M rims on my M550. While I love the look of the rims, they are made with too soft of an alloy. I had a total of 8 rim repairs due to hitting potholes in 11 months. As soon as I'm due for a new set of tires, I'm scrapping these rims and going with a set of 19"s

I'm in San Antonio. Not great roads. 20 inch 668Ms. Had problems with two damaged tires when I had the OEM Goodyear F1 Assymetric tires. Switched to Michelin PS3ZP runflats, and have had no further problems. Normal potholes no problem. Performance and smoothness is similar to the Michelin PS4S I had on my M4. Love these tires, and the wheels look awesome. 37K miles, and no problems since the switch.

I had 19" on my F10 535 no issues whatsoever. With my 2018 540 and 20" wheels I have had 3 bubbles so far and ride isn't the best. If I go 20" in the future I will upgrade my tires to 245/40/20 front and 275/35/20 rear tires. I have goodyear but I prefer michelin over them.

I regret having the 20" (style 759i) wheels on my 540i with the passive MSport suspension. They look great but the ride quality is terrible on anything but the smoothest roads. It is more of an issue around town, or maybe that's because Florida highways are fairly smooth. Were I to get a 2021 540i, I would stick with the standard 19" wheels since the MSport wheels finally look good.

20" sometimes is luck of the draw imo. I put 20" on my last 2 BMW plus my current 540i and haven't had any issues. With that said I did change out the tire size to give it a little more cushion which I believe has helped. I've only bent a rim once, and it was in my E60 coming back from a trip, hit the most massive pothole from construction. In San Diego btw which is just as notorious for crappy roads as L.A.

I live in NJ and the potholes are bad. I currently have 18" but was concerned about going to 19" wheels.
