Right out of high school $20 would get you a tank full of gas and a case of Budweiser and maybe enough left over for a bag of ice.

My first cell phone was hardwired in the car with a coiled cord and an antenna on the roof. Flip phone came later.

Did you also have a pet dinosaur? How long ago were these prices??

Also ~ a $2800 Mustang in 1964 (first year they were released) comes out to $24k today, which is about how much Mustangs go for today. If we kept an index of Mustang for purchase power those prices aren't too far away off from today's prices. Milk has seemingly inflated A LOT since then ($8 per gallon based on 1964)

OK, cash registers before bar codes. It amazed me how fast some of the cashiers keyed in the prices. And they knew how to make change. Not today...

I'm copying this and putting in the "You know you're old when" thread.

I've got an old magazine with the picture of the mustang on it.

You open it up....it says "introducing the all new Mustang". The magazine was bought because since I was a small kid, I always collected "Peanuts" memorabilia...."Snoopy". There was a Charles Schultz interview in it.

I had/have 1st edition books, signed artwork, original "cells" from a few of the old animated specials like the Halloween special. I've got toys, watches, ornaments, and even old View Finders.

Most of this in unopened original packaging. I sold about 1/2 my collection when Schultz died.

It almost payed for my daughter's college education!

It's amazing what stuff like that is worth to collectors. Just something I liked as a kid that grew into a hobby.

I even have a 1965 TV guide advertising the first Charlie Brown Christmas Special.

8 Tracks didn't rewind. They played on a continuous loop. They had eight "tracks" and stereo took two. Therefore there were 4 tracks for songs. The head that read the tape could move up and down on the tape, playing the track selected. Because they didn't want a bunch of dead air at the end of the tape, the time the songs took didn't divide equally by 4. So some songs would have to overlap between two tracks. The song would fade out, the player would read the signal to change tracks, the head would move down to the next track and the song would continue by fading in.

^...correct. The Band's second album on 8 track had that "skip" on the song "Up on Cripple Creek". Hearing it anytime since, I'm always surprised when there isn't that pause.

Huh. I always thought you were late 30-early 40. Clearly you're doing better than me in terms of acting younger than your age

Honestly though that's why I bought a bottle of a whiskey that a bar on campus comissioned. I got the 258th out of 300; the bar has been on campus since the 70s so at least 3-4 generations of kids has been there. They moved it (across the street from my apartment so I'm chillin) and this was like their hurrah.

I do want to try the whiskey out - anyone ever had knob creek?

Knob Creek is very good. Neat. But if that is a special bottle it might have collector value so check into that before you break the seal.
