Anyone do photography for a living here?

Just wondering. Part time or full time.

I shoot concerts, but it's a part time thing. Hardly enough to make a living at

The problem with your question is, "for a living." I can barely pay for my least expensive equipment off my photography venture, but it's growing slowly and could amount to a hill of beans in a few more years.

Other people have paid me to hang my stuff on their walls and publications, like Travel & Leisure, The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe, etc. have paid me to publish my images. Still the return on the twenty or so hours per week that I spend on photography is way below minimum wage, way, way below.

Good thing is, I enjoy it.

I do. Publications and etc don’t pay much. That’s the smallest profit side of things. Commercial is where it’s at. Large budgets and etc.

I am a freelancer, full time and it pays the bills. I specialize in food images and shoot for restaurants, food producers and people from time to time. I started out shooting fashion but the market changed a couple recessions ago and reinvented myself. I think that you've got to pay attention to what's going on in your market and adapt if you're going to survive.

Interesting transition. I did the opposite. But it make sense due to where we're base out of.

I have a photo/video production company. I'm more on the video production side.
We take on any project we can do.

Full-time

I went to a photography school in Massachusetts where I learned both portraiture and products, I shoot mainly portraiture though, for both like paid work and personal portfolio work.
