Will a 2010 328i engine work in a 2006 bmw 330i
My 06 330i engined pooped out on me and im getting a good deal on a low milage 2010 328i engine. (bye bye extra 50hp). My question is wether everthing like tansmission and everyhing will be compatable with my 06 and if the swap is possible.

Not the trans -you would have to do a bit of coding, the computers are not the same, i think the transmissions are too. The engine should with your wiring, sensors, and computers. The newer motors have a plastic valve cover with a built in cyclone, I'm not sure what differences there are in setting that up. Personally I'd keep the magnesium cover, since they don't break..
Also, keep your 3 stage intake. You will have the same power.. You can't use the 328i dme anyway. |

As hassmaschine said, the engine blocks are identical between the 330i/328i and you will not lose any power if you keep the 330i ancillaries. The extra power is all from the coding you currently have. Also, in keeping your current tranny you wouldn't have to worry about coding issues there either. the 330i/325i E9x had the ZF tranny... they only moved to the GM tranny when they introduced the 328i. the 335i retained the ZF (which is better)... |

50HP? Wasn't aware a 330 had 280HP
also You are aware that the only reason the 328 has less power is because of the intake manifold and coding? BMW wanted to widen the gap between the 07 328 and 335 so they detuned it. If you put your 330's stock intake manifold on the 328 N52, you will retain your "50" hp. |

it's not even that he "should" swap everything over - he has to! You can't just swap out the computer, so he has to use everything from the 330i motor on the 328i motor.
basically, you need to take it down to the short block, and swap else over. |

take everything off the 330i engine and bolt it to the 328i engine. harness and all. it will work as if you didn't change anything - no, it doesn't need a retune.

Short block is minus head. Long block is with head and valve cover.

traditionally yes, but these days a short block means a complete engine with no accessories/sensors/wiring, a long block would include everything.
