Logic 7

Can't decide if the HK sounds better with the Logic 7 on or off. What do people think?

Personally I think it sounds better on, but it depends on the listener. Still fettling it to get the best sound, at the moment it’s not the step up from the standard system I thought it would be

I find it depends on the source and have no idea why it sounds different to me dependent on the source. Like it on SiriusXM, do not like it at all on regular FM.

I had a play around with the EQ today and it sounds much better. Depends on the quality of the source, it will show up poor quality files

What settings did you settle on?

Yes - what settings did you arrive at? I've had a bit of a play with mine and it sounds good to me, but I'm keen to learn from others! I've had Logic 7 off for most of the time, but still experimenting and trying things out.

Not sure I am settled yet! Every file I play sounds a bit different. I’m going to try with some flac files to eliminate any quality issues.

I’ll have to take a picture of the settings, but basically a few clicks more bass and treble and played with each slider until it sounded better to my ear. One thing - it only starts to sound really good at over 50% volume so make sure you tweak it when it’s loud.

It’s also going to be different settings depending on the type of music. I like quite a bass heavy but bright sound, if it’s vocals you like the settings will be different. My advice is just have a play until it sounds good to you!

Off.. I find on sounds too artificial.

Having done some further testing I’d agree with off. Sounds clearer that way

I think of fake surround processing as like ketchup: improves a cheap beefburger, but not a fillet steak. The better the source file and the better the quality of the amplification and speakers, the less likely it is that this kind of processing will improve the sound.

(All assuming you're just playing stereo recordings...)

i liked your comparison

however, i think it is more about the taste. I have B&W system and really enjoying their "surround" effect.. in most cases you can really hear sound coming from "behind" which give veeery nice feeling, it's like you diving into a music, but i know most audiophiles would laugh at me and say true sound only should come from front stereo speakers only

Agreed. Less processing is always better.

Studio and non-logic/surround offers best, non-manipulated experience.

I want clean separation of tracks and sound immersion coming from physical speaker location rather than modified audio.
