Ford's new electric crossover will officially be named 'Mustang Mach-E'

Is there a market for this?

The name leveraging does not really bother me. I understand the reasoning. It is a move towards EV without taking away the V8 powered true mustang. Jeep did it years ago and I am sure there was push back in the beginning. I think the Mach-E looks decent in pictures, but I want to see it in person. It would be nice to have a Model 3 competitor that is hopefully still on the affordable side of the equation. I am excited to see what the future holds for automotive!

It looks more like a crossover than a Mustang.

Should be called the “Mach E”-ato since it looks like this “Mustang” drank quite a few of those to get to that size.

Overall, specs actually seem pretty good. Up to 300 miles of range should impress many, and the looks are better than what I thought they'd be - although I set the bar low - but the rear end needs some work. Also, where are the door handles? Anyways, should be interesting to see how this does.

Not to bad looking. Certainly better than the Aztek inspired model x.
Of the specs are true it'll sell well. But tesla has the upper hand with charging stations.

I supposed Tesla charging station specs are standardized? Like gas station as it should be able to service any type of car. Personally I think Tesla charging station would be a waste if they can only be used for Tesla cars. IMHO.

Specs look great too:

First Launch Edition: 270mi EPA range, ~5.5s 0-60, AWD, $52k after tax-rebate. This is squarely aimed at the AWD LR Model Y, which as 280mi EPA range, 4.8s 0-60, AWD, $50k tax-rebate. Slightly worse specs but it also seem to come with special upgraded interior/exterior trim, and the interior quality does look more upscale.

California Route 1 Trim: 300mi EPA range, ~6.5s 0-60, AWD, $45k after tax-rebate. This is even much better value than the LR RWD Model Y at $48k (the Model Y is 1s faster 0-60, but only RWD vs. Ford's AWD).

Select trim: 230mi EPA range, ~5.5s 0-60, RWD/AWD, $36k after tax-rebate, this undercuts any announced Model Y model and would be a great second car/first EV for many families.

Performance GT trim: 235 EPA range, 3.5s 0-60, AWD, $53k post tax-rebate. 45mi shorter range than the Performance Model Y but also $8k cheaper.

It looks like there is also a Premium trim.

Assuming these turn out to be legit (and they do appear to be), pricing is right about where I expected.

That said, even if we ignore the Launch Edition model, the lineup is a bit confusing. The "California" model seems redundant given the Premium model, but I am wondering if the idea is that it includes the most popular equipment while still coming in comfortably under the new $60k limit for the $2500 EV rebate in California. But why is it a full second slower to 60MPH than the Premium model? And why is it AWD only? And then there's the GT model which looks great, but the range takes a huge hit, unfortunately.

Hopefully the actual battery capacity in kWh and other important details are revealed during the press announcement on the 17th.

Hate the name, but other than that Ford looks to have something good on their hands. Hopefully it won't end up like the Bolt, because I honestly think this could sell well.

I'll forward that to the Ford marketing department for you.

Not going to lie, specs look good and the vehicle actually looks good. Well done Ford. I couldn’t care less what they call it.

looks like a better value than a model 3 or Y.

Much better interior/exterior and you actually get a gauge cluster. Everything else in terms of performance seems to match up well with the Teslas. Still kinda weird though... mustang tails, SUV body, and R8 headlights, with a mustang badge lol.

So I just watched one of the attached promotion videos above, and although it's not my cup of tea it looks ok, much better than the tesla in my opinion. I just don't get why they're calling it a mustang. That just makes no sense to me, it's a 4 door cross over which other than the headlights and taillights has nothing in common with a mustang.

The presentation was one of the weirdest and most awkward I've seen. And them constantly trying to bring out GT's and Shelby's alongside an SUV made it a bit cringy
