slr camera question???? :)

i have a nikon slr camera laying around the house and decided to get into it as a hobby but when i tried to take some pics for some reason i wouldnt be able to lay it on the computer. i took it to bestbuy and they told me i need to reformat my memory card...is this true because i dont want to go off and buy a 50 dollar card and have it not being the problem and not being able to return it.... thanks for the help e90posters

is the camera is able to store pictures on the card? just your computer cant read it?

yes, need to reformat, meaning connect to your pc/mac and delete and refresh what on it..

you can also go to your camera menu, and select FORMAT

cards are far less expensive that $50, in addition they have a return policy of 15 days at least. There are multiple ways to format the card, like someone above said...by camera. You can find it in the menu options. Or you can connect a card reader to your computer and once recognized by it, find it in My Computer. Right click it and choose format.

If it is a Nikon (or any other DSLR I Suppose), put the card in the camera and format it from the camera's menu system. Your computer will read if fine.

Is your card an SDHC card? Can your card reader read SDHC or only SD? There could be a ton of things that can explain why it doesn't read. You need to add more info.

sorry, i dont really know what im talking about since ive barely used it but i tried to reformat it on the camera but didnt work...i think im going to just buy another card since therre is alot of family pictures on there and i dont want to use to same card. thanks alot everyone much much much help
