I'm supposed to wait indefinitely as my 335i loses resale value and I'm essentially stuck with a depreciating asset because of actions outside my control. And so far a real lack of support from BMW NA.

The car is great, but BMW NA and the local service centers are below par to say the least.

im just going by what i am being told. I have an e92 i am in the process of unloading. It is absolutely flagged 'Stop Sale' by many dealers and is not capable of being purchased and sold by BMW as CPO.

When I called the 1-800 number to BMW, the representative said that they are expecting the shipments of new airbags is expected by December 2016. My dealer service department said possibly September. For BMW to issue a recall before the fix is in place???
So what happens when the lease terminates, and there is no new airbag available?

Screw a rental - this is what I'm aiming for. And a free detail while they're at it. A potential six months staring death or dismemberment in the face? Idiotic.

2006 BMW 330i   [0.00]
Just received two recalls notices from BMW today for our 06' 330i e90 (08/2006 Build Date) and our 07' 328xi e92 (09/2006 Build Date) but not one for our 2006 325i e90 (Build Date 07/2005 Build Date)

I find it a little odd that our 325i does not fall under the recall. I am concerned though that with the cross over of the e46 t0 e90 platforms thru the 2005/2006 model years that nothing is being missed.

It’s not BMW dealers’ fault that airbags with defective Takata inflators are being recalled. It’s not even BMW’s fault. But BMW dealers are taking a hit because they have been ordered not to sell any of the 840,000 affected vehicles—either as new or used—until their airbags have been replaced, and that means BMW of North America is also taking a hit. Help for dealers may be on the way, however, as BMW NA is preparing a “dealer toolkit” with financial incentives to help dealers weather the unpleasantness.

On March 15, BMW notified its U.S. dealers that there weren’t enough replacement airbags available, and probably wouldn’t be until sometime this summer. As a result, dealers have been told they cannot sell certain new and used 1 Series, 3 Series, X1, X5, and X6 BMWs built between 2006 and 2015 until their airbags are replaced. Owners of these vehicles should note that not all vehicles built in those years are affected"

I needed a four door and was going back to a Acura/Honda for the time being for the decreased fuel/maintaence cost and I needed a more "family friendly" car. Well all Acura TSX/TL/RDX at the Acura dealership are on a stop sale due to the airbag issues. I then went to get trade in quotes at Honda and BMW which were 12-13K and BMW told me they had no real interest since that had 9 cars which were about to be declared "defective" by the airbag issues with BMW. Luckily carmax does not seem to be aware or worried about the issues as they are selling Acura and BMW affected by the recalls. They offered me 16K and I took it.

I'm referring to them selling cars, that kind of makes sense that they won't take on vehicles that they won't be able to unload. Sorry if my reply led to some confusion

When the recall first started (early Feb) our 2014 X1 was not part of it. Just got a notice in the mail that it is part of the recall. That sucks especially given that it is going to be a while until replacements are available.

Does not effect the F8X. Mostly pre 2013 EXX vehicles.

I haven't seen anything about my M4. My wife's 2012 Q5 was recently added to the list but replacement parts not available yet. Hard to tell if there will be further additions every year or if everything to be added is already on the list.

Can substantiate (if not confirm). I got a "potentially affected" notice for my '11 E92 and nothing for my '15 F82 - and it was HEA, so there aren't many earlier.

Wow. So it's going to take even longer... I still can't figure out if our resale value is going to go up or down. I'm thinking up since you can't buy one from a dealer for the next 10 months.

The various articles are not very clear on mandated dates to have the airbags fixed but some of them say that at least the cars with the PSDI-4 inflators won't have to be fixed until May 31, 2020.

Here was an article from last year about just that topic:

http://www.autoevolution.com/news/th...s-1-94049.html

In the study, impacted 3 series were depreciating at 1.9 times the rate of similar cars, the m3 1.3 times the rate of similar cars. This was before the stop sale went into effect. It will be interesting how that impacts things.

Takata is still producing over 1,000,000 driver's side airbags per month with the same ammonium nitrate accelerant. These airbags are going into new vehicles that I suspect will have to be recalled in the years to come. This problem is so systemic to the industry that NHTSA has no choice but to allow conditional approval. Otherwise more than half of all auto manufacturing would be shut down for a very extended period.

Same here. Notice and that I'll get another letter notifying me when they are able to perform the work. Thanks Takata!

Got my letter today with my VIN on it. Recall Campaign No. 16V-071

Says "in the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's front air bag, excessive internal pressure could cause rupturing of the air bag inflator, resulting in metal fragments striking the driver or other passengers potentially resulting in serious injury or death"

It goes on to say "the airbag module will be replaced free of charge when the parts become available"

I will upload the letter when I get a chance later
