Hellos all, I recently started to have this warning message: "Use this system only when traffic conditions permit. Safe vehicle operation is the driver's responsibility." every time I start my 540i. I never had this warning message until recently. That said, What is this warning message related to? And why now? Thx.

You might have update over the air, and its just a disclosure welcome screen

Obviously one of the safety systems but which one?

Not a particularly helpful message , about as good as "error"!

Probably one for the dealer but you could try turning off all those system via the button on the dash next to the central vents and then turn on a again and see if that makes any difference

Nothing obviously wrong with any sensors? Ie radar not blocked by something, windscreen clean , nothing block cameras .

I think bmw will need to run some dish's on it to see what it's complaining about

Is that not the standard warning message for iDrive? My car does it (2017), 99% the loaner I had did it (2021), and the only way to get rid of it is coding it out.

That is the standard message I get every time I start my 2021 540i.

I'm wondering if you had it coded off then a software update set it back to the default on?

Ditto some of the comments above…it appears there is some “system” activated. Only you know what that is since you can see the instrument cluster, steering wheel, as well as the iDrive screen…and know how your car is optioned. We can only see the message in the iDrive screen.

Are there any other icons illuminated that indicates what you have turned on? There appears to be an ORANGE icon of a car with a “2” behind it in the upper right of your iDrive screen…is that the indication of some “system” you have turned on?

A warning that whatever is activated is not safe in all traffic conditions would indicate that you have some type of traffic feature turned on. Do you have active cruise control or traffic jam features etc turned on? Could you have accidentally pushed a button on the steering wheel and activated some feature?

Spoke to a local authorized BMW service center, was informed that this warning message was most likely linked/related to "3-year brake fluid" and the "scheduled engine oil" services…which was a couple of weeks overdue. Although, I am not totally convinced that this warning message was related to these notifications. But, l'll see when I deal with them in the near future.
