Mine needed replacing after just 3 months & 6k! The factory Pilkington windscreens seem to be crap!
My Sekurit windscreen has been on for 8 months and done 14k and there's not a mark on it! |

in 1200 miles I picked up 7 or 8 visible chips already...unfortunately my commute is all highway. I actually had my installer install clearplex today so we will see how the product does over time.

IMO Saint Gobain Sekurit is, by far, better quality overall. Pilkington is still good, but some of their lines have fallen, mainly in the aftermarket range.
Whilst there are some pretty poor quality aftermarket glass products (made by various manufacturers in different parts of the world) I'm yet to see any compelling evidence to support any suggestion that some glass is more susceptible to stone damage than others. Picking up a stone damage at 6k miles versus escaping any damage after 14 is more about luck/bad luck, non? |

Every time there's a post about windscreens you reply, never hear from you otherwise! My original screen already had 2 or 3 stone chips before the final one hit, each time i heard a stone strike it left a chip! And the new screen has had numerous stone strikes, but every time they leave no damage. Maybe it could be luck/coincidence, but that's one hell of a coincidence! |

My other rant is with just how easy it is to scratch the paintwork but that's discussed on another thread! What's happened BMW?

I had a stone hit my screen on the M25 just before XMAS. Quite a loud bash actually. A small chip became a 30cm crack over a few minutes. Churchill and Autoglass then took nearly a month to fix it !! With M4 being a new(ish) model they were unsure of the exact specs with all the extras I had ordered and had tried initially to fix a non-OEM version. I told them I wanted an identical screen fully branded and logo'd with "Connected Drive" near the rain sensor etc etc ... XMAS and New Year holidays did of course slow things a little (including me skiing in Canada for a week or so ... ) but still it was a slow painful process. Churchill eventually agreed to replace like for like after I got an email from BMW UK saying that any non-standard / non BMW / non OEM replacement would invalidate warranty on any systems / parts related to the windscreen and its fitting components. I was told that after replacing screens they sometimes have to recalibrate things such as Rain Sensors, Auto Light Sensors or possibly HUD but this was all a little vague to be honest despite me liaising directly with senior BMW service technicians. All OK now and my HUD, rain and light sensors seem to be working. Word of warning (confirmed by senior Autoglass technician) with these complex system cars try to replace exactly "Like for Like". My screen was order directly from BMW Europe not sourced locally in UK.
