Help with sunroof rattle…

2019 540iMsport, but I’m sure this would apply to any G30. Rattles pretty consistently over rougher surfaces. Rattle goes away if I tilt the sunroof or press hard upward. Did a search but no help. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Probably still under warranty. Mine creaks and groans, especially in cold weather, if I'm going over certain surfaces or the car is tilted at certain angles coming out of the driveway. I think that's all normal, based on other posts I've read.

All that said, if mine was rattling as if it were loose or something then I'd definitely take it in to the dealer.

I had the same rattle, took it to the dealer when under warranty thinking the seals were bad. They claimed they were just dirty. They cleaned them and the sunroof was silent for about 3 months.

I did some searching and people have said the rubber needs to be conditioned. Bought a product called Gummi Pflege, cleaned the seals and applied the product. Sunroof stays quiet now.

When I do intensive cleaning I just clean the seals and apply the Pflege as a preventative measure. Maybe every 6 months or so.

I second this. Every time I took it to dealer was fixed for like a month and then it came back. I did use Gummi Pflege conditioner and it's been over 6 months with no noise what so ever.
Make sure you clean the dirt first with water and microfibre towel and then apply it all around the glass seal.

I third this. Same experience here, on both our F10 & G30.

Yep, mine creaks on a really code start or really hot start drive off, but when the cabin becomes normalized in terms of temp, all is good. I second or third the application of gasket and seal treatment. If yours is actually rattling like loose hardware, time to go to the dealer.

Where exactly are you guys putting 'gumi pflege'? On the rubber seals?

Mine is rattling only when sunroof is open so that glass can be seen, it doesn't rattle when it is fully closed or if it is tilted upwards. I've taken it to the dealers under warranty and it was fixed for some time but came back.

I had the same issue as OP described and they ended up first replacing the seals as the service advisor said the rubber seals were cracked due to the sun. I find that hard to believe in a 2017 model but I accepted the change. Then a month later I heard the same rattles at slow speeds of 20 to 30 mph and they used a silicon based sealant which after a goodwill warranty from BMW costed me $7.00. With regards to the gum pflege, what is the process of application? Do I apply it on the outside with the sunroof open after cleaning with a microfiber cloth and water?

Open sunroof, clean all rubber seals and dry, apply the product (it's in a liquid shoe shine like applicator bottle), allow to dry- job done.

It's literally the entire rubber seal that is along the circumference of the sunroof hole in the roof. It's all pretty accessible although you'll need to hold down the wind deflector to get the front. Be generous with application, but if it starts to drip you've gone too far. Make sure you clean the seals well before application.

For shits and giggles I'll also get as much of the hard plastic that lines the glass although I do not believe it is necessary.

How else could you do it? Open the sunroof, get out the car, get to work.
