Driver's side mirror not folding fully - Normal?

Hi folks,

So I've been figuring things out by my own with my new-to-me G30. One thing that strikes me as weird is that the driver's side mirror is folding in about 80% of the way compared to the passenger's. The extended position for both is fine. My car has the 360 view cameras and I'm not sure if this is normal or not, considering each mirror has a camera (my guess is it's not normal).

I found a procedure to reset the resting positions of mirrors but it's for older BMWs and it's for the opposite problem (extending too far out). Not sure if that applies to the G30. I'm not a fan of grabbing the mirror and forcefully adjusting it.

You'll be seeing me post often around here for the next few months, so apologies in advance.

Welcome. I know you don't want to try, but as it's folding in, give it a little help to see if it will go all the way. This will tell you if there is an obstruction or if there is something wrong with the motor or calibration.

Mine does the same, makes no sense but I'm not concerned about it enough to do anything about it.

Are you sure? I only ask because this topic has been discussed across several BMW forums and platforms.

The mirrors DO NOT look the same folded inward because they are not symmetrical. The mirrors are angled to accommodate the driver...so again, they are NOT symmetrical.

If you were to look up the mirrors for the LHD (left hand drive) vs the RHD (right hand drive) for your model...you'll see that each has their own 11 digit BMW part nbr. That again is due to the angle of the mirror being designed to accommodate the best viewing angle for the driver.

If the mirrors were symmetrical...then the mirror housing would be the same for LHD & RHD...and only the mirror glass would be different to meet the jurisdictional requirement of the country/state/province the vehicle is sold.

Sorry, Q! I'm still learning the ways not only with the car but also searching for stuff related to it. I did search for quite a while and found several threads from the G20 subforum, but they were mentioning actual problems with the folding mechanism, not this asymmetry which now I know it's a quirk. Glad I didn't try to force it to move.

I'll gradually get better at this, promise. In fact in the span of the 24h since I've had the car I could've created like 15 different topics, but answered most questions myself after a bit of searching, so 1 out of 15 is not too bad.

The links are really helpful, BTW. Thanks!

No problem and no need to apologize. The way you posed your question was the reason I provided past discussions that were still in my fading memory. I wasn't sure if you actually had an issue or if it was the "symmetry" thing that was being discussed in those threads.

Im glad you didn't force them into position, too.

Ok, so this is the passenger's side mirror:

Driver's:

They don't sound weird at all when folding/unfolding so based on everyone's input, I'm going to assume this is their normal position.

PD: Man, I'm loving the multi-colored flakes in this sophisto grey.

Words of wisdom and self control. I would have already tried forcing it closed before I even posted, then my post would be an "I broke it" post!

Just want to let you know that my driver's side mirror opens a little bit more compared to the other side, but they both look angled, unlike yours where the passenger side looks very flat.

My driver's side is slightly more open than the passengers.
