British Labs are great because most are happy to work or be lazy on their owners schedule. That’s a pretty nice trait when you’ve got a busy family. But GSD are so cool. They’re beautiful and it would make my wife feel better when I’m not home.

Socializing would be pretty easy where we live. Always neighbors and other dogs out and about, daycare close by, and a couple restaurants we could have him at on the patio. I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to consistently do the obedience training. But I’ll figure that out then. My girls still have a couple good years left, I hope! They’re rescues so I don’t know exactly but I think they’re around 11-12.

My guy is show line vs working line. Show line are still working dogs and he still works, but he fits more the description of the British lab you gave. My last was full working line. Typical police dog type, always amped up and in my face to do something. Frisco is more chill.

Good to know. I’ll file that tidbit away. Regardless of the dog, Lab or GSD, I will be paying up and doing research to be sure I get good breeding. I love my rescues and they have good genes a lot of the time if they’re mix breeds because the good genes win out. But with specific breeds, there is too much inbreeding with the less responsible breeders.

I'm thinking of getting a rescue soon. It's definitely something I want to do for obvious reasons. Some can be projects though and that's the reason I didn't this time where I am at in life. Soon.

We got lucky with two good ones. Apparently a lot of southern rescues send dogs up your way. Harsh winters result in less rescues up there, I think. We were fostering our Golden rescue and then they said if we didn’t keep her, she was going to the Hamptons. We joke a lot that it was abusive to have adopted her and kept her in Memphis. Haha. But she loves me and has been a fantastic dog. Lazy as hell but that’s what I wanted.

Little play date with his brother this morning. Pretty much reminded me to not add a second large dog to the mix. Love them, but two 90lb GSD’s is a lot of dog in the house.

Frank had diarrhoea last week & shat in almost every room in the house whilst I was at work during the mornings, fortunately as I’m still in the process of stripping out the house for redecoration there are no floor coverings down but it was still pretty grim clearing up after him, wouldn’t have been so bad had any of it been solids but no, he was lifting his tail & it was like a brown waterfall.
That was from Monday to Thursday, then Christmas Eve I notice that Bellas face looked a little swollen, which got worse as the evening went on & then she wouldn’t/couldn’t open her right eye which was also swollen. So I rinsed her eyes with warm water & used a warm wet cloth to cover her eyes & swollen face every hour or so, carried on like this Christmas Day & by yesterday the swelling had gone & she is fine now…bloody dogs!

When you know, you know. If you have had a GSD then you know just how friggin smart and loyal they are. It’s hard for me to want any other breed. With everyone I’ve had, I have gotten more dilligent on pedigree and training. First one was a spontaneous pet store purchase. This guy from a breeder where his parents are actually from West Germany. He has an incredible temperament.

The eye sounds like an allergic reaction. The diarrhea could be anything. My guy has a sensitive stomach as most GSD’s do. After trying all types of kibble and wiping his ass all the time, I went to a raw diet and his poop is as hard as golf balls. You can pick it up with a bare hand and it won’t get on your hand (I don’t do that).

Got to fast them for a day or two when they have diarrhea. Fours days is way too long.

Yeah I narrowed it down (just theoretically for now) to three breeders who have show quality dames and sires straight from Germany with pedigree tracked for several generations.. Some very solid pups.

Thanks, but not likely anytime soon. We're building a new house so def not until that's completed. In fact that additional space is what's making me think about this again.
