PPF or au naturale

Just wondering how many of you guys went PPF and why.

I've gone both options but curious how G30 paint is holding up.

I switched to PPF in 2007 and no regrets. I seem to get about 12 years or so, when the PPF starts to degrade a bit. On my 2008 Infiniti I finally replaced the PPF when it was 15 years old, and now the front looks like new again.

I like that I can get into situations with road debris, like some gravel hitting the bumper, and I don't lose my mind over it. I also like that I can scrub pretty hard against it to remove bugs without causing swirl marks in the paint.

This is the way for me.

It does not have as much to do with the paint not holding up but more has to do with stone chips and sandpaper effect on the front bumper and fenders. Any car 1+ years old without PPF has front end pits and blemishes from driving. PPF will 100% prevent that and keep it like new. It's worth every penny if you are OCD about keeping your car almost perfect.

I have a full front (bumper, hood, fenders, mirrors) and the rear parcel tray PPF'd, and I will never have a car without it. My 2018 looks like the day it drove off the lot.

My prior car did not have it. It was almost perfect until the day I got behind a box truck spewing shit on the highway. There was not getting around it. When I eventually stopped and looked at my front bumper I wanted to cry, it was a mess of pits. PPF would have spared that.

AND BTW, ceramic coating doesn't do shit to prevent road debris damage.

Just wax and a knock-off M-Performance front spoiler to keep the lower section clean.

I regularly drive over 200 km/h and the front end still looks pretty good.

I probably wouldn't own anything worth PPFing, as that would mean it would be something too valuable to drive. And what is the point of that?

I'd like to try PPF some time but paying like 7 grand to do a full PPF just makes me gag at the price. Especially since it yellows over time and the edges start to come up and eventually needs to be removed and re-done. PPF would have saved me from door paint chips that I've had to touch up. Most people have no respect for the personal property of others. I'm much more worried about paint damage on the sides than I am the nose. Hawaii parking stalls are so tiny, and you have no choice but to be a victim.

I’ve had several cars ppf’d ( full front bumper, partial hood, mirrors). This seems to be a great combination for protection and cost. The cost to protect with ppf is much less than repainting those items.

If leasing, probably would not worry about it unless you plan to buy out the lease.

If buying, ppf is a great option to protect your front end for that new car look…all the time.

Ceramic coating will not protect like ppf. I see ceramic good for protecting against light scratches (sides, rear, top, etc). I see a lot of enthusiast ppf the front like mine, then ceramic the rest.

Same. That's how I have my M550i ppf'd. Good balance between cost and protection.

I've actually never priced PPF out as it seemed so silly on anything but some kind of collectible. People pay 7k for that?

Christ on a crutch.

This may be one of the funniest things I have heard in months.

I did front end only on my 2018 M550i and the rockers/ leading edge of the rear quarters were fairly nicked up in 60,000 kms. With my 2022 M550i I did the whole car and never looked back.

In my experience, bmw paint is very soft and chips when you look at it sideways so at roughly 1k buck per panel to respray, I'm very pleased with the xpel on the entire car.

In terms of cost, what I have is more like $3 grand and if it makes you happy to have a clean hood, fenders, bumper, mirrors etc., then $3 grand on a $90k+ is peanuts and equivalent to adding that expensive option you really want.

But to each his own, not judging either way. Everyone puts a different value on different options.
