Coolant level
Is the coolant level supposed to be super low (non-existent) in the big coolant tank and at max level in the small one?

From the looks of it the coolant surface line is the main tank is just at MIN so looks good to me. The secondary or charge cooling tank looks above MAX to me. Although that's exactly how mine looked when I checked the charge cooling reservoir yesterday, I ended up pumping a little bit of it so it sits just below MAX, OCD of mine. I ended up topping up my Blue coolant with a few cups.

Yea it won't, your main tank looks perfect. When I opened mine I couldn't even see any coolant, that's why my alert came on in iDrive. Coolant level has to get really low for the notification to come on, your level is exactly at MIN, which is perfect.

They should ideally both be at max
You need to check coolant when the engines cold. I check mine when the car hasn’t been driven for a couple of days or check it in the morning when cars been left overnight. If you have no obvious signs of a leak I’d suggest getting a top up bottle of bmw coolant, dilute accordingly usually 50/50 coolant & water, top the tank up to the max mark & monitor it daily & see if it gets low again, if it does then you obviously have a leak somewhere. How often do you check coolant level? I have a look once a month. A little coolant does evaporate through the tank & hose walls over time but I’m talking a year or so & it shouldn’t get as low as yours looks, unless you haven’t checked & topped of for a long time. As your still under warranty you could get your local md to take a look

I don't check it often. The last time I did was probably a year ago or so when I had the coolant flushed—no visible leaks. I don't drive the car every day.

I did make an appointment at my local BMW dealership tomorrow to have them diagnose the issue. I'm under CPO so I'd rather have a diagnoses done rather than a top off and then after CPO expires the coolant level goes down again

Yeah good call, although over here the MD will charge for investigative work if it turns out there isn’t an issue even if you do have a bmw warranty but they’ll most likely find something to replace…whether it needs it or not

If you've CPO or EW coverage, get the turbo coolant lines checked for leaks ... the original lines have plastic fittings and rubber hoses which will fail as they're sitting above the hottest part of the engine. New replacements are stainless braided to better survive

Well, it turns out the tank leaked. Took it to BMW. They pressure-tested the tank and it had a slight crack. Cover under CPO so we are all good.
