DIYed my sparkplug change today. Runs and sounds great and better. But my check engine light immediately went on?

Hellllp!

Probably a sensor is not plugged back or a pipe is loose. Check everything again

If you are a DIY'er, I must assume you have a Code Reader.
What is the code your car is telling you is wrong?

Well this was a 'duh' on my part completely. The CEL was triggered simply be disconnecting the coils. CEL went off on the next cycle.

That's super odd. Was the car in the 'on' position somehow while you worked on it? I'm trying to figure out how it knew you unplugged the coils when off.

Glad it resolved itself, but intrigued as to the mechanism for the CEL.

I failed to disconnect the battery. So it 'sensed' the absence of a connection maybe? I am just realizing that I had also been working on the CAI and had removed the Ox sensor as well, so that could have also triggered the CEL.

I do have a new issue many weeks after this issue which is an intermittent CEL without throwing a code tho.

Glad you got it resolved, but as Herk said, first thing you should have done was read the codes and then you could have just cleared them and the CEL with the reader.

I am thinking now that I may have had Diagnostic Mode turned on as I had also been working on the rear brakes with BimmerLink... its a lesson to me to be more mindful of what, where, and when I am doing work. Had I ventured into other territories, I could have done some real damage leaving all the systems on like that. That's even if I remember correctly now. Overall tho, it's a good reminder to disconnect the battery or at least be mindful when working on multiple systems. This time no damage. Where's the embarrassed emoji?

Stuff happens and we learn. We've all been there with "doh" moments so don't worry about it.

I think you have justified a new tool purchase; a code scanner and reset tool!

Keep on wrenching!

Maybe this question deserves a new thread, but is there any consensus around the best scan tools for the G30? I picked up Bimmerlink for the basic stuff but I know it's just a toy compared to the more professional tools out there.
