Dynamic Damper Control
I placed my order for a 2018 530e (I drive 110 miles a day...), and am contemplating adding the dynamic dampers. I'm currently out of the country so I won't be able to drive a car with/without them before I get back and my car is delivered. If anyone has driven a G30 with the standard suspension and one with the dynamic dampers I'd appreciate reading about your experience and if you think they're worth the extra $. Thanks in advance.

I happen to think these adaptive suspensions are worth the entry. More so than the self parking and hands free cruise ( you can literally take your hands off the wheel for a few mins and it's drives for you. So pick your pleasure. Tech or sport. So much for all. |

ive ordered a 530e with 20" wheels and variable dampers. I was always going to have the variable adaptive dampers but my mind was made up when my dealer told me that both the 530e se and 530e M Sport both come with the softer se suspension as standard! no m sport suspension on the 530e at all. |

Don't bother, the dynamic pack is much more than variable dampers it includes adjusting anti roll bars.
Variable dampers alone as fitted on my 530e I absolutely hate, the car is too heavy in the rear for them and rides 10mm higher. Lateral rear stability is not what I like. If your used to BMWs you would call it boat like. They cost 800 Euro each and you need a VDP module, coding and possible fibre optic wiring harness to retrofit and link it to the ACSM My advice is buy the KW DDC variable kit with the remote control as you can adjust it to what you like. The difference between comfort and sport from the OEM is very small the KW kit will be better and cheaper to fit. QUOTE=nicky dj;28184857]Anyone know if this can be added aftermarket? Just picked up a used 530e[/QUOTE] |

I owned two 2020 530e. One loaded and one a stripper. The loaded one had DDC. It was the first one I bought and when I first drove it, I thought that BMW had finally been able to make RF tires that weren't rough riding over potholes. When I then got the stripper, I saw that it's RF tires, which were identical to those of the loaded one, were just like always. DDC made the car ride like non-RF tires. After a year I sold the stripper. Will never buy a car again without some form of DDC.

I agree it makes the car ride better on RFTs but at a loss of lateral stability in the rear around town, at speed it's ok. It just doesn't feel like a tight BMW setup to me on the 530e. It may be down to the small ARB that's part of DDC and the extra weight in the rear due the battery.
I'm tempted to get upgraded ARBs as it's the rear lateral movement at slow speed is the only thing I'm not a huge fan of on the car part from that the car is perfect. |
