Stupid BMW Dealership

You can't make this up!

My local dealership have put the wrong plates on the car! Just noticed today when some paperwork arrived from BMW. I've been driving around on unregistered plates for nearly a week
There will be words said tomorrow to the DP, before I go to Watchdog and the local papers, followed by a letter to BMW UK.

Erm is it much of a big deal? No one's sending you to jail right? Have they put it right now?

Did some harm, fine, or anything other than a little inconvenience due to an oversight come from this? Or do you just need to see the words "we're sorry" on BMW letterhead?

Positive you've been given the right car?

Probably just a mistake by the work experience kid or apprentice who got handed a set of plates and told to screw them onto that 5 series "out there". Mistakes happen - It's an embarrassing stuff up but in the scheme of things doesn't sound like any damage has been done. I'm sure the DP will sort things out for you.

hmm, I wonder what would have happened if the police had stopped me for driving with incorrect plates, or maybe my insurance is invalid. Only noticed it when I got home, the dealer had closed by then. They will sort it out, but shows that their handover procedure needs to be improved.

Imagine, all of the speeding tickets that I'm not going to get

Obviously a mistake. Are both plates the same? I’ve known folks to get different plates, front and rear.

I always ask for number plate options and agree before handover. So when I'm picking up the car, I know it's exactly what we agreed.

So you're complaining that BMW aren't doing a good enough job by giving you the wrong plates, then go to on to boast that you've been taking advantage by speeding without the risk of fines? OK then...

Nope, I believe that they come through the post from DVLA these days.

Yeah I'm guessing the speeding ticket comment was a joke, seeing as how he didn't realise he had the wrong plates he could not have purposefully taken advantage of the situation...

Explain to the officer the car is brand new and just be a clerical error at the dealer?

Don't see a reason for making this such a big deal.

I also had an issue when I collected my car. The dealer quoted the letter Y as "uniform" when he gave me the details so, of course, insurance was wrong and had to be changed at the last minute. Fortunately they got it right with the registration.

By the way, did you get the advanced eye 2.0 installed ? If so, which dealer had it in stock as I am still drawing a blank on the subject in SE London dealers.
