Oil Change At 30.000 KM?

Hello!

I am very curious if we can debate this subject. The normal G30 car requires the oil change at 30.000 KM, first revision.

I am a bit worried to change it that far away in time, and I've read that the best way is to change it at 10.000 KM.

What is your opinion on this?

Thank you!

If I were to own the car, I would of done on at 5K, then another one at 10K and every 10K after that.

Since, I lease, I do whatever BMW recommends. Our "scheduled" services are included in the cost of the car in the US for 1st 4 years or 50K miles.

PS: This is the wrong section to post this question.

In real life, oil begins to age literally from the moment it moves from a sealed canister to the engine mazes. Its oxidation begins, accelerated by constant heating and cooling, detergents leave, dirt accumulates.

Because engine goes through a lot more heat cycles I cut my changes down to 5k miles. Constant cold / hot is ypur enemy.

For peace of mind, I would do it every 5k. Besides oil is not too pricey.

I would say that 10.000km or 1 year is okay for the car.
Certainly do not wait 30 000km like BMW "recommends".

Actually, per Blackstone (used oil analysis firm) interview I saw on YouTube, oil does not wear from age. It wears from use. When asked if you should change your oil annually on a car driven perhaps less than 1,000 mile per year, the answer was clearly a "no".

Basically he said oil changes are not time based. Oil changes are dictated by use (mileage). Of course how many miles he's going to say is determined by used oil analysis.
What is interesting when you follow the used oil analysis threads on bobistheoilguy.com, is that some cars and oils, can go significantly longer than specified by the vehicle manufacturer, and some less.
It really depends, you cannot make generalized statements.

I change my oil at the interval the manufacturer recommends. I have better things to waste my money on than unnecessary oil changes.

On my last car, I changed the oil ever 1Y/10K miles like Mercedes suggested and had zero issues and I sold it with 90K miles on the clock. I am just about to do my second oil change on my G30 since the BMW CBS suggested it was time which is 1Y and almost 10K miles later.

Why would you change it any sooner? Modern oil is very durable and engines are built to extremely high precision. We’re not in the 1950s anymore.
