Adaptive LED with matrix technology
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Just ordered a LCI 530e touring and I can literally find nothing regarding the specs of the new LED Matrix headlights. I was curious to know how it compares with the (excellent) equally named system used by Audi. Do you have any ideia about the specs? How many LEDs does it have, light intensity levels, how does it work in the real world (for the ones already driving an LCI in Europe with this feature)? Finally, any technical doc about it? Spent 2 hours googling and nothing showed up Regards |

True.. but there is a big difference if the led matrix has 3 ou 4 LEDs or 80 like Mercedes or Audi.
I am affraid BMW is a lagging in what concerns LED lights. Laser was launched by BMW, I know, but in practice I think a good LED lighting system has much more usability for most of people than the Laser. Well, I guess I will try and then will make a review, compared with audi matrix which I have today. Regards |

Confirmed (netcarshow.com site) that each headlight has just 4 LEDs
It is an option with the same price of Audi or Mercedes and it is a lot less efficient than an 80 LED system (like Mercedes' or Audi's) To be honest, if I knew, I would spend the money in other optionals, but the car is already built and on its way and there is nothing I can do. |

I have the laser lights on my UK spec LCI 540i.
I am coming from a Mitsubishi Shogun with halogen headlights, so I can’t compare them to some of the other high end car headlights out there, but I can tell you that I find them to be fantastic. They are very bright - so much so that when I next drove my Shogun I kept thinking that I’d forgotten to turn my headlights on. The adaptive part works really well too. I can see it recognising other vehicles and dimming that section, following them as they drive past. I was worried it would blind other drivers but I haven’t been flashed by anybody yet. The car is great, but the headlights are one of my favourite features. I would definitely choose them again. |

Problem with the lights
Hi,
Does anyone else has that same problem? Pic attached. So, when driving, there will be this unlighted straight line at beam shape going across the view. Did have F10lci with adaptive led lights before G30 lci, and it did not have that problem with light output. Thanks |

I thought adaptive was just meaning that the lights turned with the steering wheel.
So is Icon Adaptive actually a matrix system?

These headlights are a mess.... Junk compared to the various BMWs and MB I have had over the years. My loaner car is a 21 M440i and the headlights are great compared to the M5C. My wife has a 19 X5 with lasers and they are fabulous. How can you have a massive non-illuminated strip between the high and low beams? Add to a damaged grill emblem on delivery (took weeks to get in the parts), damaged key fob at delivery, ongoing headlight issues, gesture control unit malfunction, and the 360 camera view terribly misaligned on the screen.... Ok rant over.

I had adaptive full LED lights on pre-LCI G30 and now on the LCI I have the LED lights (no laser option in US), I guess they are matrix based.
I find the LCI to be equally as good as the pre LCI in a straight line. However, the pre LCI adaptive LED lights would move with the steering wheel (as mentioned earlier on this thread) and that was not only pretty cool but also helpful. I could easily see a beam of light moving with the steering wheel as I was making turns. The new LED lights on the LCI do not do that. I have no idea if some tiny LED is moving within the LCI LED matrix, but the light beam is definitely static, not moving at all with the angle of the steering wheel. Seems like a downgrade. I am not talking about the cornering light, which does light up when I turn the wheel all the way to right or left.

I get the impression they know there is an issue, but there isn't a solution yet. This is was what on my ticket. Will drive it at night this weekend to see if it is any better. Says 2 different fault codes (20 times for one, 1 for another). Looks like they swapped right and left headlight modules.

I have exactly that pattern with a dark line on my 2021 LCI 530e with adaptive LEDs. I guess it is not a problem ... it is a "default" thing by design that everyone has i guess |

Are you in "A" (Adaptative) mode? For you headlights. Just blows my mind that this would be removed. I wouldn't buy a car at this price point in 2021 without that functionality. |
