BMW G30 far better than Audi A6 and Merc E Class

Whatcar at http://www.whatcar.com/news/2017-bmw...ict-and-specs/

after their first drive says:

Should I buy one?

"The 5 Series is an all-round brilliant car that’s far better than the A6 and E-Class. It brings a luxury limo feel to the executive saloon package, and this 530d variant offers a great combination of power and efficiency. It’s just a shame that, as before, a lot of the luxury items are expensive optional extras, so while the list price is competitive, what you pay will likely be far more".

Those were my thoughts exactly the trunk looks smaller because of those side bolsters... Looks almost like the interior is slightly smaller in some areas as well.

I am hoping the back seats are not sitting high just like the 7 series.

The interior actually looks very nice (BMW interiors while functional are not the prettiest things in the world) but the exterior- meh. Id pick an S6 over this anyday- the new LCI S6 is beautiful inside out and is probably 10-20k cheaper than this.

Where the hell did the center vent temperature adjustment go? I really like that; and it will take some adjusting now that they've gone from the toggle central locking button to a lock/unlock on the door. I guess you have to make it for the masses..

Am I the only one that thinks the 540 wheels would look good as a winter set for an F80?

It is perfect for me. I hate groping around for something that I can't see while I am driving.

Come to think of it, it doesn't look good with M under it. Maybe in the cluster by the gear knob. Anywhere visible is acceptable to my taste.

Wth, no one is complaining about the fake leather dash? Leather dash is a must have for me, I hate the rough grain on the fake one, and the stitiches don't match 100%.

And I'm so not used to the white one without a sunroof. It looks so weird without it and not being carbon fiber.

I love the white on black wheels color scheme. Makes it look more flashy and different from the million other 5ers on the road.

I can tell from photos alone how high quality the interior is. Fantastic attention to detail and solidly built with top notch materials. I just love how solid BMWs (and German cars in general) feel compared to the rest.

WhatCar is always very passive with their reviews and rarely critical. i'm genuinely curious to see what Car & Driver thinks since they were so critical of the F10, deservedly so. Yes I did read C&D's first drive but "first drives" generally don't tell anything. We will have to wait a few months to get a better analysis.

Regardless, I firmly believe that the new 5er and E-class have run away with this segment. They are so far ahead in technology, interior design, material quality, fit-and-finish, etc. that's it's not even close. Jaguar XF is a laughingstock with that putrid interior that looks like it came to compete with the E60 instead of the G30. I think the new A6 will be very much like the new A4, meaning a solid product that lack a little bit of soul and character (like all Audis).
