Such is evolution...
It's not evolution. It's imitation. The side profile looks like a Hyundai. The rear end looks like a Lexus. The DRLs are clearly Volkswagen. There is NO draw to this boring vehicle with mismatched design influences.

Good news, there's a big gap in the market for understated and timeless design. Think Audi has the best edge on that these days.

I think we're just in a lag and the brand loyalty won't hold them over much longer.

Absolutely hideous. Grille is too big and gross, the headlights look like absolutely everything, and something is just wrong with the bulbous proportions. The 5 series used to look serious, now it looks outlandish. Honestly hope nobody buys this. A Hyundai would cost less and look better.

This just doesn't look like a BMW.
How many BMW did you own in total?

Idk I kind of like it, I mean after all, haven't they Imitated BMW enough through the years for them to return the favor That was true for Audi 10 years ago.

I'll echo a few of the above comments.... surprised the upgraded engines didn't make it.

even more surprised that the car didn't get the upgrade to driver assist pro, but the release references the extended traffic assist (hands free) so does that make this "plus" package the equal of the "pro" on other models

Steer clear of the 530i. That car is slow as shit. Feels like an oversized German corolla with that engine.

I can live in hope that this is just a US-spec.

Tony
I am surprised the 530i didn't get the power bump that was almost a given for LCI.

But with the 300-400 pounds extra in the 530i over comparable 330i not sure if the extra torque would have been all that noticeable?

The 530e did get a power bump to 288HP..

Not as big of a bump as was rumored. The iDrive was upgraded to full, but some stuff like Traffic Jam Pro (?) are still missing. Other interesting things I noticed was that they talked about features already in my car with iDrive 7 lite as new, such as the maps and parking suggestions.

Maybe MY2020 will get full since less seems different here.

It's even longer than before. Why so many BMWs get bigger with every iteration just doesn't make sense. 🤷*♂️

When the E60 LCI was released, I thought it was progress. New front and rear lights, new interior elements and some new engines.

This just seems a bit meh.

I do like the new look of the 5 series.

The other day I had a new G20 3 series with the laser lights option in my rear view and whilst I do like the look of the lights a lot, the iconic BMW style angel eyes/rings/drls does seem to be missing. Couldn't tell it was a BMW till it past me!

The rear lights look like they're wearing cheap, super thick eyeliner. It's really offputting to me - and I really like the front lights.

I think this is pushing me toward the X7 (was debating the LCI G30 vs the X7), unless by some miracle the car in carbon black hides the hideous eyeliner effect.

Couple of things:

1. The german press release mentions the 545e inline-6 with a SOP of 11/2020, seems it coming later to the US market or they announce it separately in late summer/fall.

2. The 530i MHEV adheres to the latest european emmision standards (6d) while the current 330i does not (6d-temp), that might be the reason they could not bump power, not sure.

3. It was pretty clear from following ynguldyn's predicitions that there wouldn't be a lot of new tech in the LCI, as iD7 was already introduced last year. However, laser lights is a nice upgrade.

4. The german press release mentions a new Driving Assistant Professional, not sure what is going on there.

5. The 5 seems to get the trapazoid exhaust tips usually reserved for the M-performance models as standard on all models

6. Not applicable to the US, but it seems the 6GT taillights haven't been changed much at all.
