18' M550i or 14' M5 competition?
both alpine white with similar milage. I need help with the decision because I really am torn. The M5 is tuned with downpipes, intake and exhaust so it's perfect as is but it's a 16 hour drive away. The M550i is just as beautiful with upgraded leather and all the new tech vs the 14 and down the street. * the M5 with my trade is 50k out the door and the 550i is 56k https://www.bmwofsouthatlanta.com/in...jb9c51jb035692

M550 hands down. Much newer car, newer tech, probably CPO I'd assume. And it's closer to you. No question about it, M550 for the win in my book.

I had f10 M5 and traded on a new 2019 a yr ago. 2 different types of cars. Warranty reasons alone is why I had to get rid of the M5.
M550 will beat f10 M5 in 0-120mph all day long. Kill it 0-60 bad. Roll races M5 will slowly edge away from my experience. I have stage 1 tune on my M550 and I feel with tune it would sit even with my old stockish M5 (509 rwhp) from 60 roll. Plus the 2018 M550 has some new tech and body style. M5 more exciting to drive yes M550 very consistent performance all day in any weather. Also if the M5 has a tune stage 2, you can bet it's been driven hard(in my opinion) on top of being 7yrs old. Also looks like independent dealer with 4 previous owners (may have gotten from Manheim auction). Both are very pretty cars.

Get the M550i, you will be happy in the long run. I agree the M550i has more tech, faster and newer. I don't know if you are financing but for 50k, I would want a newer car. The 13 is 7 years old and after five years, you just paid off a car that is 12 years old now.

Only reason to get the F10 would be if it were a manual in my opinion and I've driven neither of them. M550 is just better from what I've gleaned from my research (b/c I'm on the same journey you've been on).

I don't do 100-200 freeway pulls during my normal driving... but merging, passing from low speeds, etc... the M550 wins. The tech is a big deal. We aren't racing ona daily basis nor are we tracking these cars - they are sporty luxury cars whose primary role is to get you from point A to B in comfort , style, and with performance. If you make a daily driver decision based in full out track capability you will be driving the worse car most of the time. If I could have justified the cost of an F90 M5 CPO I wold have bought that instead of my M550... but once you factor in cost and value - the M550 is one hell of a deal. I've my car. Wrapped in luxury, massaging my ass, doing 0-60 in 3.9.

I had exactly the same question beginning of this year, and ultimately went for m550i
I guess it depends on your use of the car; If (like me) you do 80-90% trips for holidays with family and kids, and 10-20% fun driving, then m550i the way to go- It's a refined car that my wife enjoys driving and my kids spending time in, it's quiet and relaxing, takes care of your safety with driving assistants... and transforms into a (tamed) monster at the click of a button. Actually on my first trip, back from the dealer to home, which consisted in 4 hours trip of mostly highway where it proved superbly capable, followed by a short stretch of half hour country roads where i had the opportunity to switch it into sport plus mode, the first feeling was 'holy sh**' this thing is *very* capable, cornering fast, very securely in those tight bends. Especially considering its size and weight. Sure it's no porsche or M car when it comes to excitement, yet it's a very nice balance. I'm putting in some m5 parts plus dinan monoballs in the coming weeks to increase chassis rigidity and precision slightly but won't be doing much else. That being said i'm thinking my next car would be an f90 m5... in a couple of years But perhaps by then things will have changed a lot and we'll all use electric cars (i4 anyone?) Hope this helps
