M550i Cabin Filter Replacement

BMW just quoted me $293 to change my cabin filter with the filter costing $200 and the labor being $93. This seems really high to me. Have any of you changed your cabin filters? It looks like I can buy an oem filter from getbmwparts.com for $90 with list being $142. Am I missing something here? Why is my dealer charging $200? Is there another filter I need to buy? Any help here is appreciated! Thanks!

For my F10: Mann Frecious Plus Cabin Air Filter Set at autohausaz.com
P/N: MN-64119272642
$45.89

You may need to look up the G30 part.

If you are handy, youtube has several videos on how to do it. Its a bit of a pain, though, since you need to disconnect the battery and move the airbag to get to it.

Thanks for the reply! I watched a few videos and it doesn't look too complicated. I was afraid I was maybe missing something since it appears list price for the filters us $142 and the dealer wants to charge me $200. From the videos it looks like there are 2 filters, which is what the parts diagram shows as well. So I am just going to order them and do it myself instead of paying $293.

That's pretty in line with how dealers charge for anything. They always charge list + maximum labor lol. That's why I only go to dealer when it's free..

I picked up a set of two OEM filters for $25.00 on eBay. Search eBay for "BMW 64116996208".

Putting them in the car is a five minute job (maybe 10 the first time you do it).

I found a set on eBay, will report back after the install. But thanks again for the info, that saved me a lot of money!

No worries. I do all my own general maintenance on my cars for this exact reason. Also, for future reference, the EcoGard brand cabin filters are every bit as good as the BMW OEM filters if you can't find a good price on OEM. You'll find EcoGard filters on Amazon.com.
