Honestly not bad at all. Better pricing for similar specs than I have in the Northeast right now. I'd say outside of poor market conditions this probably would have been like a 39-41k car depending on region so I think you're paying less than average used car markup rates at the moment.

Seems nice in the pictures. Price is hard to gauge since prices of used cars are inflated. New cars as well.
Things I would consider.... It is a BMW Certified Used Car - At that mileage on the odometer, I don't see expensive maintenance items in the Carfax history that should have been done or may be due soon like tires and brakes. The Continental tires look good in the pictures. As part of the BMW Certified "reconditioning", are those items addressed if needed and perhaps not reported in the maintenance? Or were they done at a non-BMW shop that would not report to Carfax? If so, the brakes replacement would concern me. No accidents reported in Carfax but that doesn't guarantee that the car was not subjected to minor damage and paint work or even greater body damage that was repaired by the dealer and not reported to Carfax. If you know of someone in the body shop business, it would be a worthwhile investment to have it checked. You can also check yourself. If you want advice on that, of course YouTube is full of good info in addition to the usual mindless nonsense. This is one example... Good luck! |

I offered $46K out the door and $10K for our 2012 535i with 92K on the clock and 100% dealer maintained. I forgot to mention it has new front brakes and tires.

My mom bought a 2018 540i M sport with 25k miles for same money a month or so ago. So In this market your price seems consistent with what dealers are getting. These prices are nuts.

Looks like we'll be picking it up Monday. The best we could do was $51400 OTD (tax is a killer!). We were going to pick it up tomorrow, but the dealer found a rock chip in the windshield and they are replacing it. The glass doesn't arrive until Monday, so we have to wait until then. Don't know what they'll give us for our 2012, but Carmax gave us a $9200 offer. Hopefully dealer maintained, the new front brakes and tires will help get more for us from the dealer. Should be a fun drive back home the 90ish miles.

Make sure the windshield is OEM. I know you are buying from a BMW dealer and one would assume they use OEM. However, car dealers outsource windshield replacements to a third-party company. With the current supply shortage, a windshield ordered and delivered in just a few days would be cause for concern and lead me to question the source of the part. A neighbor was in a rather minor accident with his BMW 3 Series and still has a rental after 2 months because the shop is waiting for a bumper and taillight from BMW.
I would confirm with them before they install and if not OEM, take delivery with the chip (if not that bad or cracked), have them order an OEM and get a written IOU for the OEM windshield replacement. As for the tax? Yes, it is a lot. I purchased my 2021 540i M Sport in June of 2021 and paid a bunch of tax. Will include in my taxes for 2021 (sales tax on a vehicle is deductible). I live in FL and there is no state tax. CA does have state tax so I don't know how it works in that case. Have a feeling you can deduct on fed or state but not both. Either way, you should be able to deduct in 2022 but it won't yield that much in the end. Good luck with the car!! |

Since we paid-off our house we can't itemize anymore. That, and a 33% pay cut because I retired. |

I don't know if BMW still offers it, but there was a Night Blue interior color. We saw it in a Bluestone Metallic G30 when we were shopping. It looked nice.

Thought about that but my wife absolutely HATES to drive, especially at night. The dealer being almost 90 miles away pretty much made the decision for us. Years ago I bumped a short (like 18") retaining wall and put a crack in the bumper. I had it replaced, stupidly using insurance. It showed up on Carfox as a "moderate accident!" That really killed the value. Nevertheless, we took the easy route for convenience. |
