F#%* drunk college kids
I really don't understand why someone would vandalize people's cars. I mean, how can you even get any enjoyment out of it? I can maybe see if it is something personal against a single person but this person keyed a whole line of cars! I was the first one to file a report apparently so probably won't catch the stupid fuck... great way to start the week.
p.s. Sorry for the large pics and dirty car

Hawkeye... That sucks in a major way, you may have to the rear deck re-sprayed to cover it properly. Near a school or college bar?
And people give me a hard time when I get picky about where I'll park, and I know it's just a car. In Madison there's just too many places something like this can happen. Dave

Yeah, in a parking garage in Iowa City. Not next to the bars but between them and some housing. I am really particular as well, tht was why I was in that garage, guess nowhere is safe Anyone know about how much this will be to repair?

Very sorry to see this kind on vandalism on your Z, Hawkeye. I can't understand it either, but then I would never do aything like this, like you and many others. Some think it's a subculture called "haters", who resent not having the nicer things in life so much that they have to destroy the possessions of those who do. While I am not a violent person, I would really love to catch somebody on film doing this kind of thing.

Yeah, I would have thought it was a hate thing as well but there were some crappy cars in the line that also got keyed. Mine was the only nicer car in the line that I saw.

Then I REALLY don't understand it! I'm thinking something close to $1000 to do a proper fix. You would be out your deductible if you use your insurance.

wow..that really sucks. People have no respect for one another's property. When I had my 06 VW Jetta GLI, a kid in my neighbor shot out it's rear window with a BB gun just because my car was new and he had a pos dodge stratus.

Yeah, I was hoping it would be less than my deductible as I really don't want to make a claim, I get a deduction for not having a claim in the last 5 or so years. Guess $500 is better than $1,000 though. Damn.

Wow that sucks. Unfortunately like someone else mentioned, you will probably have to have the hatch painted. Depending on how much the paint has faded since new they may have to blend the adjacent panels. I would get a few quotes, but depending on your comprehensive deductable you will probably just file it on your insurance and pay the deductable.
Sorry a few posts went by since I started this. |

Thanks for your input Vitamin. I want to get a quote right now but of course it is Sunday. The BMW dealership here has their own stand alone body shop so I will probably get the work done there. It is deep enough that they may need to fill the scrape before repainting it as well. The paint is not very faded, it is garage kept 90% of the time and spends it's winters under a car cover so not too much weathering.

In my experience it is pretty hard to fill those thin line scratches. They will probably use like a 3" disc to level the surrounding area. This will help keep the finished paint level with the existing paint when they blend it with the rest of the panel.

That hurts 321bh. I have had my car for about 2 years now... I can't imagine how I'd feel if this happened right after I got my car...

That blows. I have a nasty scrape on my X5's side mirror from a dumb college punk banging his backpack against it. I saw it happen but was several hundred feet away in my building. Way too far to ID the kid. Wouldn't do me much good anyway. It's not like he'd have any way to pay for the repair.
This coming Thursday is move-in day at the school. I'll be working from home to keep my cars safe from the inconsiderate bastages.

I think the best thing to do for those of you in college is to not use your Z4 as the daily and keep it in a save private garage. Might be worth it to spend the 1 or 2K and get a cheap-o-beater and save yourself the hastle of someone screwing with the nice ride. Keep the nice ride in a safe place and drive it only on weekends with the ladies.
I parked my Honda Accord (thank goodness I didn't have my M yet) near UCLA to catch movie once. When I returned to my car, someone had put a sledge hammer or something through my rear windshield. |

I think it is not only through the clearcoat but I am worried they took out some of the metal as well. It is pretty deep and a fingernail catches pretty significantly.
I am getting 2 quotes today at lunch so I'll let you know what I am quoted. I am going to the Lithia body shop here (pretty high tech, anyone have any personal experience) and the BMW bodyshop. I decided I am never going to drive my BMW down to see my g/f (who is in college) anymore. Only the bike that I can park right outside her place next to the other motorcycles or my truck that I care a lot less about.
