It goes per county. Some county's enforce it, others dont. The place I go turns your car on, puts the hazards on, walks around. Takes it around the block, bam. Instant sticker :woot:

No one's worried about significant turbo lag with such a big pipe and deletion of BMW's "Twin Charge" pipes?

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

If anything these will decrease spool time...which in this car should be a godsend. In a stock car I never feel the turbo kick in...too smooth for my liking. |

This is very nice and I cant wait for this to come out because I will most likely be purchasing one. However IMO a 4" DP on this turbo may be to big. Bigger is not always better. Yes the object is to have less backpressure and get the exhaust out as fast as possible. A 3" pipe would be plenty sufficient for the stock turbo(even for an upgraded one) to do this. I have a feeling that the 4" DP will actually sacrifice spool time and not help it spool quicker.
For example. Im heavy into modding late model mustangs. Ive built a few single turbo 4.6s that make in excess of 800rwhp. The setup consists of usually a single 76mm or 78mm turbo and a 3" downpipe. When we switched to a 4" DP, it took the turbo about 300-500rpm longer to spool. We did pick up power, but spool time did sacrifice. Now doing this on a much smaller turbo, I dont know how it will react. I hope Im wrong, but its just something to think about or maybe even test if you have the time to do such a comparison. Dave |

If you read up a few posts, you will realize that twin 3" downpipes actually have more area on an N54 than one 4" pipe for an N55. So these are actually smaller overall than before...and the entire engine is breathing through one exhaust pipe now instead of 2 before. |

3.5" HFC DP ---> 3.5" true-single DP-back exhaust = W.I.N. for the N55.

This is not a correct comparison. The combined airflow of the 2 turbos in the N54 is higher than the flow of the single turbo from the N55, as demonstrated by the fact that the N55 turbo cannot hold much extra boost to redline as opposed to the twin turbos in the N54 which can hold plenty of boost to redline (see the Vishnu wastegate duty cycle remarks).

Ill have some cell phone pics up in a few minutes, then I will be boxing this bad boy up and sending it to Matt.
We are working on sourcing a high flow catalytic converter right now Also, once Matt verifies fitment, downpipes will be available for purchase. And the price will be significantly less than $999, even though fabricating these is as labor intensive as a set of N54 downpipes...

76/78mm is right at 3". Putting on a 4" exhaust will add an expansion loss as the exhaust flow slows down as it transitions from 3" to 4". That loss is much bigger than the extra flow area of the 4" for spooling. This downpipe looks like it will also expand a bit after the turbo flange. A 3" might be better for spool, but like you said, you picked up power on your Fords with the 4". Now someone get this thing on a N55 and start tuning. I want to see how the turbo does at high RPM where Shiv was reporting difficulty holding boost (no more than 12-13 psig I think). On my old STI a better DP was key to letting the turbo spool higher and produce higher boost at high rpm. I'm guessing the N55 will be the same...
