Ambient lights dashboard problem

Does anyone have this issue with their ambient lighting on their dashboard? Like the whole strip is not lit fully?

I had the same issue. the First time It was replaced or fix under warranty about a year ago. Now the same probloblem but the car is out of warranty. Both times the problem have been in the same spot as the pictures seen above.

Ah damn, yea mine was fixed but then when i do the option to stagger the lights
Meaning white up top and blue on the bottom

The top part that is supposed to be fully white
Is half white and half blue so ill go back when i get something serviced again. Such a pain

Mine looks exactly the same way. I thought that's just how it was. I'm going to call my service advisor tomorrow.

Yea they fixed it! Its under warranty
You just have to explain it, they think i meant that the light was just dim and that it was a setting

But i havent gone back for the problem where my dashboard light is half one color and another color at a certain setting.
Ill go next time i have to take the car in
I always set mine to the same color all around anyway

I did not know that the ambient lighting is an optional equipment.
I do not think that is something that you can retrofit without changing the trims and trims are quite expensive.

Just wanted to thank everyone on this forum. I bought a used 2017 G30 and thought the ambient lights were supposed to be like that. Dealer fixed it under warranty.

Recently had mine fixed. The light is affixed to the trim and needs to be replaced as one unit. Only problem now is the new strip does not dim at night using the setting. Need to take it back.

Mine is having the same problem. I took it to my local dealer (the same one I bought it from) and they said after comparing it to others they believe it is supposed to be like that. I know it's not but they won't bother looking into it further. Any advice? Do you have any pictures of it now that it's fixed that I can show the dealer as an example.

What a load of BS! It’s not supposed to be like that and any generic picture of the interior shows that it’s not supposed to be like that. Insist that they have a technician look at it or find another dealer.

I am taking it to another dealer, they kept my car for a whole day just and said a technician did look at it. BMW of Alexandria, VA if anyone wants to know who. I'll put them on blast!

I think you can also complain to bmw NA
They should absolutely know how those lights should look like

At that point I would've just walked out to a new 5 on the lot and compared- it's not rocket science.

I've got this problem, BMW asked around 2k to replace the dash trim. I pulled off that dash trim and noticed the plastic tubing that the LED light runs the light on had what it looks like fogging on the plastic tube.

That plastic tube was a long strip that is removable and it has the LED diode on one end which shines the light down that tube but struggled to shine past that foggy part. The foggy part looks like someone put a cigarette lighter to the plastic and burnt it.

Surely, how can this be the fault of the owner!
