It appears they are going all out with this tablet style design. I've been a fan of most MB interiors over the last decade and I feel the tablet style makes them look a little generic (even Subaru is using this style in their latest Outback) and I'm not sure people actually want touch screen for everything. Seems like one of those things that nobody is asking for yet automakers are forcing it on us. I said it once and I will say it again. People aren't buying Tesla's for their interiors so I find the change to these big tablet screens perplexing. On the plus side the tablet at least looks like it's positioned well where the driver doesn't have to reach far.

I agree. But now there are so many customizable settings a tablet is really the only way to set-up the features for your individual preferences.

Every automaker will be going the route of full screen tablets. I imagine it's just easier/cheaper to have one screen do everything rather than physical knobs.

By far the biggest question about this car is whether they actually intend to use I4 MHEV and PHEV drivetrains across the entire lineup from the entry level diesel right up through the most powerful AMG model with over 500hp. There have been reports to this effect, but I remain skeptical. An M256 I6 would make far more sense at this point in evolution for at least the flagship AMG if not the second tier model as well.

Mercedes digital screens all seem to have the border of a ten year old Kindle Fire.

My problem is that the touch screen is too low forcing the driver's eyes to move both to the right and down to see the screen. If the car can come with a good HUD, then I don't mind; otherwise, it would be a no go for me.

Ultimately, I want a car that I can drive. That means buttons and switches for features that I will want to use while I am moving (radio volume, AC, seats, etc.) and a good HUD so I can keep my eyes on the road.

I drive a car to drive it; if I want entertainment I use my flat screen at home.

Apparently the central screen can still be controlled using thumbpads on the steering wheel, but I still would have preferred that they kept the command knob instead of following Audi to all touch screen. I wonder when BMW will follow suit (considering the 2AT spy shots) since it seems like the future will be all touch.

I think the new CLA makes the C class kind of obsolete.

I think even the present C-class is much more refined than the present CLA.
Though I can understand why many will prefer the latest CLA.

As much as we hate it, these massive touch screens with a bunch of useless features are exactly what today's customers want, especially younger ones. The bigger the screen the bigger the flex. It wows people, it makes the car feel special.

How a car feels to drive? People draw blanks when that topic is brought up.

Maybe it's me but I really liked the retro-modern aesthetic of the outgoing class of MBs (interior and exterior). I guess I could see some people thinking it's not very cutting edge, but I kind of like that it had a certain timeless appeal. Not a fan of screens replacing everything
