M550i 20 Inch Run-Flat Tire Advice (Bridgestone vs. Pirelli vs. Goodyear)
Hi guys, I am currently looking to upgrade my M550i to 668M wheels (currently with 19-inch 664M wheels), but I am not quite sure about which tires to choose.
The parts guy told me BMW offers three RFTs in 20inch size: 1. Bridgestone RE050A RFT 2. Pirelli P-zero R-F (Not sure if it is the newer PZ4) 3. Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric ROF I did some research, but basically all of them have mixed reviews. I know that some non-runflats do provide better performance and comfort, but I still want to keep using runlets just for that peace of mind. So can someone give me some advice regarding these tires? Really appreciate it! |

I'm running the 20" P-Zero RFT's on my 648M wheels, and they're the "older" tread pattern from 4-6 months ago.... not the newest PZ4 pattern, but same tread wear of 220.
I had the choice of both tires to choose from, and from what I personally saw the newer PZ4 tread was wearing down faster than the older pattern. Now it just could've been those tires and that particular driver, but I've been running the 20" P-Zero RFT's for the past week now and have already put 500 miles on them with lots of freeway driving (often going with the flow of traffic at 80-90 mph in some areas). My P-Zero's feel really stable and smooth at those speeds. No vibrations and they're very quiet. Also lots of grip on banking freeway on-ramps. Today it actually rained in the morning pretty hard, so I got a chance to experience them on the wet surface around town and on the freeway at speed (no more than 70 mph). They still felt very stable and smooth on the road with lots of grip, and the car still stopped perfectly when on the brakes. After a few minutes of driving on the wet surface, I felt confident driving on them in the rain. |

Had Pirelli PZero on my Jag F-Type and learned to hate them. Anything below 10C (50F) and they were hard as a rock with no grip at all. Rain performance was also terrible. Now part of all that was silly a$$ torque (500 ftlb) of the car but I'll never have them on another car again. I believe the M550i has Pirelli Pilot Super Sport (non RFT) and love them. Unfortunately no spare but there is a tire "repair" kit (the black goop).

I have the Goodyear F1 Asymmetric's on my M550i. I wanted run flats, and ordered the car with them (not brand-specific order, but I knew they would be these tires.) I also ordered the "real" spare tire kit/option from the factory because I was afraid I would not like the run-flats and would switch to regular tires. However, I'm now ~4,000 miles in and, to my surprise, really like the Goodyear's. I've hit a couple of pot holes and was concerned, but so far, so good. They are quiet and ride/handle quite well. No, they are not Michelin Super Sport good in the handling department, but for a daily driver, I have no complaint - plus the car itself makes up for handling deficiencies of these tires. If they last reasonably well, I'll likely replace them with the same tire. On the tread wear front, I''l have to wait and see... BTW these are light-years ahead of the Goodyear Excellence ROF tires I had on my F10 535i Sport.

I've got the goodyear f1 as well and am pleased but to be fair I'm not sure I would be able to tell these from other males.
What I will say is that I have hit a number of potholes(difficult to avoid in the U.K.!) and they have been fine no issues as regards that. Only 5000 miles so far to tell what their life might be but certainly nothing bad to say about them. |

I also have the goodyear f1 assy 3. They are perfect for me on my 540i g30
Performance? Super. Driving in heavy rain? Honestly still feels like it's a hot summerday while driving. Noise? Obviously more than non-rft but perfectly acceptable |

I am very pleased with the Goodyear F1 RFTs. Not harsh like older versions of RFTs. I'm still playing with tire pressures to determine optimum handling though. I didn't like the Pirelli P7 non-RFT on my M5. Too noisy and lacking grip, esp compared to Michelin.
PS: I'll likely go for the PS4S non-RFT once I wear out the F1s but no rush.
