BMW 530e true output
Hello All,
As per BMW 530e spec :- . EDrive Motor output is 111hp/ 184 lb-ft 2 liter Gas engine output is 180hp/ 255lb-ft The combined output is 248hp/ 310 lb-ft. Is the combined output of 248hp is always available ? Will it ever reduced to just the gas engine output of 180hp when the battery is completely used in a long drive ? Thanks, Kabi |

This is an excellent question.
My daughter's CT200h has a special kind of CVT apparently without any "chain" but with plate to plate tech. I love the concept and reliability. Don't know how the physics works, though, for output. PL |

I would assume it will reduce the output down to 180hp if the battery is completely depleted. But even when the battery reads "---" there is still a little bit of charge left so I would assume that you can still access all 248hp if needed for "boost."

Even when it drops to "---" there is still energy left for boost. I think BMW retains significant amounts for that purpose but states that it could be lost if depleted to avoid a lawsuit from someone who accelrated so often and so hard that he truly depleted it.
A related question is where 25 HP went. The 530e is reported to have the same total HP as the 330e but has 25 more HP in the electric motor and the same HP in the ICE. So where did that go? |
