Returning a leased vehicle
hi everyone,
I leased a 2018 BMW 530e and will return it Oct 2020. Now after two years of driving, all 4 tires are worn out and I need to replace them. This is the first time I lease a car, so I am curious to get some idea. Because it comes with Michelin run-flat tires, when I return the vehicle, does it have to be equipped with Michelin run-flat tires? Will the dealer accept the car if the new tires are "cheap"? Will the dealer accept the car if the tires are 10K miles old? Beyond tires, what are other things to be mindful about when returning a leased vehicle? Thanks in advance! |

For lease return of BMWFS lease, as far as I've been told tires must be same type and class. If run flat you must return car with run flat. If car came with a performance tire you must return with a performance tire (with same or better speed rating). And tread must be greater than 3/32".
I also believe if tires are older than 7 years (on sidewall date code) BMW might claim they are not acceptable even if tread is ok. I'd recommend calling your lease servicer to confirm details of your contract.

Also depends highly if you are releasing a new BMW. They tend to be more forgiving if you are sliding into a new lease.

Yes you can pretty much hand them anything if your trading or returning into another BMW. Forgiving to say the least. If not double check what's been mentioned above and if there is any wear on the leather get it colored back to color.

I wouldn’t do anything to the car before the pre inspection, once you get the pre inspection done they will tell you of any possible charges. Then you could decide to pay the charges are fix the issues yourself.
If the lease is through BMW financial they are really easy going ... |

It's not common for BMW dealers to 'waive' fees, even if buying a new one.
Unless there's a big incentive for them on one side of the deal. Otherwise they eat the costs from BMW. BMW now charges $300/tire - In some cases this is less than getting new ones put on. |

20000 over is a lot of miles. If you wait until turn in you will get killed on the overage. At 0.33 per mile, that is $6,600. Prepay for miles at .18 and it is still $3600. If by "rolling" them you mean folding them into a new lease or purchase, you are going to pay interest as well. Sounds like a lease was not a good idea.
