I believe that is exactly what my wife's Mercedes does, and that is why it seems so seamless. I agree, it is a better way.

Hey, I recently bought a CPO M550 and they didn't even remove the previous owner's name from the start-up display.

2021 5 Series US Models

2021 BMW M550i US Market:

1. No laserlights.
2. They took away the automatic soft close doors.
3. They took away 4-zone climate control.
4. They do not install touch climate control.  Only M5 and the 7 Series have it as standard.

All the above is available as options or standard package in all European, North America, Canada, Asia, and Middle East models.

BMW NA seems like does not like US.  The price went up with less options and standards.  The older model year like 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 are more equipped.

I mean the laser lights are kool but not a big deal to me same with the touch climate and 4 zone as I don't really have rear passengers but the soft close doors sucks. Such a nice option

They did add to the 2021 an LCI facelift with remote start, and a larger screen though...

They just took away he HK radio system from X5 40i and 45e. They are taking about taking that away from the 5 series. Seriously, who would want to drive a $80K + car with cheap radio and sound system? BMW has lost it, at least for the US market.

I think it was only available as an app function prior to 2021, whereas the LCI adds it on the FOB.

I believe that remote start wasn't an app option. Using the app to turn on the ventilation was but to turn on the AC or heat one needed a phev where it runs the HVAC off the hybrid battery.

Wait what!? BMW would ship the 5-Series with only the "HiFi" stereo option?? Dropping the HK upgrade entirely? That would be pretty stupid. TBH the HiFi should be replaced with HK as a base option and the B&W included in the Executive Package similar to the E-Class.

The LCI already cut out decent options and didn't add a lot to the picture...

The segment is only getting more competitive not less. So they need to smarten up.

I just checked BMWUSA's website and the HK is now removed from the X5. Also, they removed the auto engine start off button from the 530 and the 540 models. I never liked it, but now you just have to deal with it everytime you stop.

The HK system is not as good as used to be. They dropped the sound to 464 Watts Per Channel from 600. Not comparing cars, but Honda Accord and Toyota Camry their sound system is at 600 Watts Per Channel now. Lexus has bumped it to 1600.

I think more people need to go on to Facebook and Twitter and write their complaints on BMW USA, BMW, and BMW NA accounts.

I agree with you... for a $60K+ car HK should be standard. With prices going up and with less options, you almost to want to a BMW anymore.

Yeah the HK system in my MY2020 is underwhelming compared to my Mercedes I replaced and I don't remember it being lackluster on my test drive of a 2019 before I ordered my MY2020 (no 2020 models were on the lot at the time).

BMW is making some VERY poor choices lately. And even more problematic is they are lying a lot to consumers. The HK system in my MY2020 was advertised as being 1600W like previous model years. We've only just learned that they gimped it. They did the same with RSU for MY2020.

It all seems small potatoes. Perhaps their views are "well most people lease so they won't notice or care", but I didn't do that. It leaves me with an extremely sour taste in my mouth having spent $70K. And all of this is making it REALLY hard for me to consider buying another BMW.

Yes. You press the center circle or whatever three times then hold it down till the car starts.

Doesn't work for me. Does anyone know if this is enabled on UK cars and if you need additional options installed?

I feel your pain. my 530e had an msrp of about $73K and I have the HK system (with the full 600 watts power, not the puny version currently being offered), soft close doors, leather dash, nightvision, etc. which are all not being offered any more.

I use the phone app all the time in the summer to turn on the AC after finishing the 17th hole. If they turn off the app, I will sue the sobs.

You need to allow access from your vehicle first.
Car>Settings>Climate Control>Precon/Ventilation>Remote Engine Start

After that - 3 Clicks to center BMW on FOB

that's the issue then - I don't have that option. I wonder if it is now part of the UK spec or if I am missing an option that would allow this to be possible

We don't get remote engine start in the UK. I enquired with BMW UK when my LCI 540 was on order.

They couldn't tell me why, but I suspect it might be an emissions thing because it seems to be a Europe wide issue, whereas its enabled in the US.

I wonder why they did this. My neighbour has a Volvo xc40 with remote start and i get jealous about it!
