Switching M550i order
Not sure if this is the appropriate forum, but I figured it could t hurt to ask anyway… Put a $2500 deposit down early September for an M550i. Was told I have a November 21st build week about ten days ago (BMW Sudbury in MA). Am now thinking though the X5 M50i might be a better life style choice now (middle age sucks). That all being said, any idea/educated guesses if I might be able to swap cars at this point without a loss (550i was purchased at MSRP - is also an individual paint color - they said ETA at dealer is probably late December/early January) and go into the X5 order seamlessly? Haven’t seen this kind of topic discussed here before and would welcome any thoughts before I call the sales guy. Thanks!

When I ordered my 540 and placed a $2500 deposit a few months back my sales guy stated that if I changed my mind it was fine, that my deposit would just need to be put towards another car with their dealership (I specifically asked what happens if I changed my mind or don't like the car when it arrives, as I hadn't seen my color combinations in person). If I recall it was even stated in the boiler plate email they sent me once my car went into production.
If they are a dealer that cares about customer service and keeping your business I would think they will be totally fine with you switching over to an X5 build. Good luck! |

It's a win/win for them. Funny you mention the X5 M50i as i'm considering that same move myself.

People change their minds all the time. Call your SA, and I'm sure he/she will be happy to accommodate you.

I'm 54 with a bad back and I love my M550i…the best comfort available for me….plenty of trunk space. I hate SUVs, they are way too bouncy for my liking. I love being middle-age, we can afford fun toys like this.
Like others said, the dealer isn't going to care. Unless you ordered some hideous individual color that they'll never be able to sell. |

Ordered a G30 in January. They would not take a deposit. They told me I could change my mind on options for a few months. Either a VIN was assigned or a build date was assigned, I don't recall, but that marked when I could no longer change options.
I was also told I was not obligated to buy the car. When it showed up in June, I would guess they could readily find a buyer for it. But we took it and my wife loves it (I love it too, but I bought it for her). |
