Yes, they definitely want to keep a gap for the next M3 to slot in above it.

Good work Bosch, after all, there're responsible for majority of that list.

Funny, in 16 years my VANOS (including Valvetronic) was absolutely fine; as was every other VANOS engine in cars owned by family and friends since 2001 or so. I guess we were the only ones!

It is not 100% confirmed yet, but current signs are that the G42 2 Series coupe will top out with the B48 engine, yes. And yes, it is strongly likely that it will be a high output version like the one in M35i UKL vehicles. Whether it will literally be a longitudinal version of that exact engine or a new version with more power or perhaps other features such as 48V mild hybrid remains unknown. It will not arrive until mid 2021, so details are still scarce. |

The Supra will basically be identical to the Z4 except for sheet metal and Toyota emblem on the steering wheel. Toyota dealerships will have to be trained to service BMW and have parts inventory.

When automakers comment about plans to scale back ICE development, they mean that they are no longer placing as heavy of investment into future engine architectures or ICE technology as they once were. They don't mean that they are going to stop developing incrementally improved engines. It is difficult to predict when the last of the ICE engines will appear on the market, but estimates under, say, ten years from now would seem to be aggressive and beg for a degree of skepticism. We should accordingly be skeptical of any suggestion that engines on the market ten years from now will offer no significant higher output than those of today. |
