Does the 2019 5 series full digital instrument cluster come without the metal circles?.
The new 6 GT doesn't have them, it has a full screen digital cluster with no metal bits even though it's still iDrive 6.0.
This makes it seem like the 6GT can be upgraded to iDrive 7.0.

It was a very slight "facelift" the circles were removed and the chrome on the door handles were removed.Few more changes but can't remember them off the top of my head. Cars that arrived from August-september onwards have these changes.

Well the chrome on the door removed is a shame. Does this apply to luxury line models as well?

I have a 2019 and the chrome rings are gone, as is the chrome strip in the door handle. I think the sport mode dials are also slightly different in the 2019 MY, it is grey instead of red.
The Luxury model is not available in the UK, so can't comment on the chrome door handles.

The removal of the rings does not mean that the software will be updated to idrive 7.

The 2019 M5's still have the chrome rings, suggesting there is no plan to upgrade MY2019 cars.

It looks more like its just to differentiate between the M and non-M5.

When/if the G30 gets idrive 7, BMW will expect you to be buying a new G30 if you want it. I don't believe for 1 second they are going to give it to us 'older' cars as some sort of free update.

So the information displayed in the spots is exactly the same it's just all the physical pieces are removed in lieu of a full digital readout?

I don't understand the hoopla around ID7. Had a G20 330i loaner back in December with ID7 and live cockpit gauges and didn't care for it one bit.

ID7 is the answer to a question no one asked. Buggy and not any bette/easier to navigate than ID6.

And don't get me started about the eyesore reverse gauges...

Agree, iDrive 6.0 was pretty much perfect and has a simpler/easier layout to navigate. Only feature from iDrive 7.0 that I really care about is the ability to get OTA updates.

+1 What gets me is that with a digital display, BMW should be able to offer multiple display options through IDrive. Even standard car manufacturers offer that.

Agree, for how advanced BMW usually is with tech, one would think they would add a bit of customization, but for the gauge cluster they didn't. In my Merc I have a few different gauges I can pick from, and in the new MBUX system there are even more choices, honestly probably many more than any person would ever need/use, but still its nice to have the ability of choice. I would like BMW to bring out an update in which the gauges could mimic that of two analog gauges (tach + speedo) or even something similar to Audi, Merc, Porsche, etc. and have a center mounted tachometer. I'm glad my M2 still has analogue gauges cause these new gauges are ugly and not the best to use in spirited driving.

Second that as well. I don't understand the reasoning behind limiting the UI since the hardware and code should be more than capable of handling added customization.
