CTS Intake Install M550i

The install was pretty easy. I think I spent more time wondering why I had extra intake hose pieces than the install itself. There is no instruction manual but it’s pretty self explanatory.

I drove the car around for 30 mins to make sure I didn’t throw a code and the spooling is addicting. I’m not sure it benefits power but the sound alone is fun to have.

Looks really good, I'm sure they're a slight HP bump not having boxes. Where did you order the set from?

FYI there is an install manual but it’s not in the box. Just go to CTS Turbo website. They have install manuals based on model number. For the m550i the manual you need is the CTS-IT-825.

Do you get any noticeable sound increase from these? I was looking to do front mounted intakes on my m550i due to how hot our engine runs to begin with. Are you worried they are just sucking in hot air from the engine?

Sound increases 100%. You will not be disappointed, unless you're looking for the sound the RK's CAI make. As far as the hot air, there is still air ducts that feed air into the intakes (I can take a picture later) from the front of the car (not sure its all cold air though). I'm pretty sure the CAI's for performance are hard to beat. I just didn't go that route because I didn't want to cut or worry about the CEL.

Maybe eventually I'll do it but for now these are perfectly fine.

I just put mine on about 2 weeks ago, and I also had extra parts, but that is because it is made to fit multiple models. you love the woosh sounds! it does add a couple extra ponies quote from CTS " In summary if you're looking for a high-flowing, affordable, and race-inspired air intake system for your BMW F90/F92/F93/G30/G15/G16 M5/M5C/M5CS/M8/M8C/M850i/M550i, the CTS Turbo Air Intake is an excellent option. With its massive 6" velocity stack air filter, 3" smooth air intake pipe, and peak power gains ranging from 12 to 20HP.

hope that helps. I hope the image shows up, but if not check out my profile

that is the DINANTRONICS X tuner:https://www.dinancars.com/products/s...arts/D440-0160

That in combo with the intakes, this thing is a beast and gets you close to the M5

Sick. I was asking about the Carbahn tune with another member and he mentioned it was a tune for the mid-high range. Do you feel the Dinan tune is the same way?

The Dinan adds about 40 to 50 ponies, check the link I posted, let's just say that other than the highway there is no place you can floor it. Which I am really not supposed to do due to the break-in period for the car which is 1200 miles and I only have about 800 on the car right now.

When you say other than the highway, do you mean it’s too fast down low or the tune is meant for power delivery for the highway.

I’m also in the break-in period as well just passed 800 but I’ve only gone up the gears a few times. I’m all about a little spirited boosted break-in, just not maxing out rpm and and every gear.

Yeah I kinda broke some of the do not do in the break period, but what the heck people go to BMW in Germany and take delivery and punch it on the autobahn over there... So why can't I? Well I did and I can say I have the high-speed synchronization option and I should be able to do 165 to 170 and sorry to report the car maxed out at 132mph, maybe because it is in the break-in period? Well to answer your question: living in north east Illinois the speed limits other than the highway is capped at 45mph. So by the time the smile on your face gets bigger from the more pull at the higher RPM band you are already way past the 45 limit, the power from the Dinan PNP tune is more than enough for low roads and highways, hope that answers your question.

I read the car was governed at 132 but someone else here can correct me if I’m wrong. But thanks for the info on the tune. I’m contemplating on which one I want to invest in. The Carbahn tune apparently feels like stock down low.

My two cents is to go with the Dinan tune, super easy to install because you already upgraded to the CTS intakes, you don't have to unbolt anything, the connectors are already accessible to you, I installed the Dinan after I installed the CTS intakes. The hardest part is zip-tying it. it is two connectors and done!

I had this installed: https://www.dinancars.com/products/e...arts/D660-0080

I used bimmerlink to open the exhaust flaps and then pulled to fuse so they are permanently open, I want to drive it for a bit and see how that setup is, but in the end I will probably get the Dinnan exhaust. I have the full Dinan exhaust on my 2019 M2 comp, and it sounds mean as hell!

Cars sounds pretty sick. I really wanted the manual m2 or the manual Supra. It’s on my next list to purchase.

I just pulled the trigger on the Dinan exhaust, the others such as Remus as an example are stupid expensive when you include a set of $800 tips?? F that, I just ordered the Dinan from summit racing and should get it in about 3 to 4 days. And I will call in the morning to get an appointment to get it installed. After having the Dinan exhaust turn my M2 Comp into a loud beast, I can't wait to hear how it sounds on a V-8. Depending on how aggressive it sounds in sport+. If it sounds badass I will use bimmerlink and open the flaps, then pull the fuse to keep them open all the time, I will post a video as soon as it is done. Should be next week.

Are you buying a diffuser for the rear ? I’m torn with Dinan and Remus. I wish I could hear the difference in person.
