Key Casing/Shell Replacement

Thought I'd share a very inexpensive change that I made to my car key... in essence, I bought a replacement key casing for £3.33 for my main key. The replacement badges were £2.20 (11mm one).

My main key is now over 5 years old and started to look a little warn. I was the 2nd owner on my car and the key wasn't in the best condition when I received it. Now it's at a stage where it's been dropped many times, the badge has worn off and the matt feel has worn off leaving a shiny surface to it all. I could have started to use my spare key but I want to keep that in it's new, unused condition (the next owner will thank me one day) ha

I came across the replacement casing on AliExpress. Initially I thought for £3.33 it wouldn't be any good and probably wouldn't function as it should. To my surprise, the fitment and quality is really good. I weighed both keys before and after, both came in at 69g.

I was able transfer the internals of the original key into the new case. Everything fits as it should and all buttons function as they should too. The only thing I didn't use from the new casing was the button membrane. The OEM seemed be of a better quality and fit. I also just used the manual key bottom piece from the original key.

£5.53 is what it all cost in total - which I'm quite pleased with!

Thank you, please let us know the durability of these.

I tried Ebay M replacement emblems for my refinished Style 66 wheels, and for mm factory steering Sport wheel and they faded in 6 months. I purchased the factory wheel emblems from BMW and they are still holding up after four years.
