Do you know if they have plans for other models at lower price points?
Maybe I missed something? The Lucid Air website says starting at $69,600?

I realize that's probably the base price with no options and maybe performance that would not be comparable to a Model S. Just pointing out they state starting price is $69k. Lot of wiggle room between $69k and $160k.

correct. that is the 400+ HP model. Not a bad HP output for that price. They have recently opened a design studio at the Scottsdale Fashion Square mall (and have six chargers in the parking garage). Looks like it could be very competitive.

Biggest issue could be chargers. They say the cars come with 3 years of free electrify america charging but that only helps if there are electrify america chargers readily available. Aside from the six chargers at the mall (I assume they are fast chargers but I have to stop in and ask), the nearest such charger is 40 miles away from my house.

The cars do look nice.

Yeah, actually they have a pretty wide spread in pricing. From your attached link the base prices of the various trim levels are $69.9k, $87.5k, $131.5k and $161.5k. I think an SUV may be coming?

I understand where you’re coming from and you’ll likely enjoy your new car.

I was personally enamored of them the first time I sat in one a few years ago, and was planning to buy one. Then I spent a weekend using one last year and was bothered by the lack of little things and luxury I was accustomed to in BMWs. A friend said it wasn’t fair to compare them like that, as Tesla built a new category of car altogether. Maybe I’m just not ready yet, especially on the charging/range aspect.

One thing’s for sure, BMW is bleeding current and prospective 3 series owners to the model 3. The new S is also likely to be very successful, at the expense of German automakers.

I know plenty of people that switched and aren’t looking back. I have an acquaintance with a Panamera turbo in their garage and lets it catch dust in favor of a model s. Not what I’d do, but different strokes for different folks.

I was just referencing the quoted price in that motor trend piece. I do need to carve out some time and check out the website and configurator. Not gonna lie, I really don't follow EV development much.

I agree. They are certainly carving into all auto makers markets, including BMW. Like you, I have 4-5 friends with one. Some are on their second. I'm definitely becoming an island all by myself.
