Turned my BMW into a large brick paper weight

Please help lol.

I used Carly to register a new battery. While I was in there I saw I could change light colors and other cosmetic stuff. I know, I know... bad boy! So I didn't like some of the changes and decided to code back all the defaults with the backups Carly took. The backups didn't take however and now the BDC-M and another BDC ECU say need to be restored. Multiple attempts to use Carly to restore in just about every configuration have failed.

Tons of error codes and problem conditions now. But the main one is the car doesn't think it's on when the engine is running. If I try to go forward or reverse it applies the brakes because it thinks its freely rolling, and I cannot move it more than 5 feet at a time.

About me. I'm fairly capable. A network engineer from the old days. So I'm used to recovering computer systems from scratch/bootloader/flash/etc.

I just bought ISTA+ from bimmerdiagnostics. During install a screen said it's free, if you paid for it get your money back... So, I'm not sure what I'm dealing with here.

I got to the point where I can read my car, and the BDC shows up OK. I'm getting lost at how to reflash and recover my vehicle though.

Any help would be appreciated and paid forward. Thanks for your time!

There are magicians on here who can fix anything if you have an ethernet cable, dongle and grant them remote access.
Hunt around and pm them. They will respond

Your CAFD file for the BDC is most likely corrupt. It can be restored. I personally use ProTool.

Where can I get the files for my car? I have a feeling that's why I don't have access to the programming fields on ISTA. Because ISTA doesn't have links to the ECU files?

I didn't replace any ECU. So, I won't need access to any unblock codes correct? Restoring ECU will just need the correct file flashed basically?

Thanks for the replies all!

I am not a coder, but I know enough to be conversational. I had something similar happen to me which is why I think your CAFD file is corrupt. I was using ProTool to do some coding in the BCD (custom ambient light colors) and when I made the changes and flashed, it failed and I lost the prior coding (for my LCI lights predominantly). So I then said, well I bought this product to restore a backup. Tried that and failed. I then reached out to Bimmergeeks who make Protool and they told me my CAFD was corrupt and they walked me through how to get a clean file up there and then how to restore the backup with all of my coding. I freaked out, but at the end of the day, all was good.
