Interesting. I have never seen an M5 style bumper trim on a 540 before. Here is the M Performance diffuser and 550 bumper trim for comparison.

I assume your diffuser is a separate piece and could technically just use it with my existing lower bumper trim that I removed to install the M5 diffuser. ah wait, just noticed that lower piece is a different shape...and is your diffuser, above the CF piece, matte black? hard to tell.

that was my main question - if i can use it with stock, then I can just sand it down, primer and possibly paint it myself - or have my body guy do it. might save some moolah! thanks!

Doesnt look like you added the matte black bumper cover just added the carbon diffuser . Looks good, but different from poster aboves set up which is clearly oem. Trying to see what I am going to do. I had MPE installed on my 540i when I built it so I already have the grey bumper cover that comes on the M550i Thought it had to be changed out to the matte black cover, hopefully not Thanks! |

So... I bought a CF setup off ebay - didn't fit right and seller wouldn't take it back but ebay refunded my $522, so I got to keep it. Broke the lower bumper cover, the ebay one, trying to make it fit, so I trashed it. Decided to see if the lower CF diffuser would fit under my OEM bumper cover-fits perfectly fine. I think I'd prefer a matte black or body color lower bumper cover but I think for now this doesn't look half bad...for free... So yes, the bumper cover you see is the OEM for my 540 M package. Dobie's is much nicer I agree... so yes, to reiterate, stock OEM M sport bumper cover with ebay carbon diffuser. I might, not sure, just spring for the CF M performance diffuser for $1400 but it's pricey as hell! I can always have my stock lower bumper painted matte black or body color if need be.

think I might keep my lower bumper cover the color it is, it kind of goes with the CF. glad I used the CF spoiler instead of the OEM one I got. wonder if my car is faster...

hah! good call. my wife says it's "I DEAF AND DUMB" - she's a keeper... and I will most likely ditch it soon... better to have a total debadge usually on my cars. I figured the all black was a bit more subdued...

UPDATE: after the fiasco with the first ebay setup, and the fact that I didn't have to pay for or return the first one, I bought a second one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/223105891486
I have to say this one fits PERFECTLY. No gaps and all the tabs snap right in. It's gloss black and no carbon fiber though. I can live with that. Only issue is that the bottom holes of the diffuser, under the car, don't line up with the factory holes. So it's only held in by the two screws on the outermost portion of the bumper. Still feels pretty solid. I have a message into the seller for any advice but if you want a cheap way to add the diffuser, go for this one. |

I have a query regarding your first diffuser, the M5 one. I tried fitting one of these yesterday on my 520d M-Sport and found that the holes at the very bottom of the new diffuser do not line up with any holes underneath the car. It seemed that the panel behind the bumper needs to be removed to accommodate the new diffuser. Is this the case? Maybe the 540 is different to the 520d in this area.
