Incomplete Readiness Re: State Inspection
Ok, so I went to my local inspection guy and failed!
He asked yesterday if the battery had died, or if I had cleared any codes as he was getting incomplete monitor codes. I had the battery replaced by BMW last summer, and I had cleared a code using the Carly App the other day (the code was: Found Faults: --Engine / Motor-- *** CDB7::Nachricht (OBD-Sensor Diagnosestatus, 5E0) / Message failed *** Fault-Set 1 - ( 241664 km) The incomplete readiness was for the Cat and O2 sensor. I am running AA X-Pipes, but I had Benvo code out the lack of secondary cat. Is it possible that the code for this was erased at some point? Or, is it the fact that I haven't really driven the car much since clearing the code? I put between 50-60 miles on it since clearing. Sorry about the word soup, I'm on like...3 hours of sleep.

If you have a tune for no cats, then the catalyst monitor will never go into ready mode.
Most states allow one monitor to be pending and still pass inspection, so you need to find out why the second monitor isn't setting. It could simply need more driving time if your driving sessions are only ever a few miles at a time. There are threads on this forum on the subject if you search for them. If you have no secondary o2 sensors installed at all then that is your problem. You may find it easier just to reinstall a factory exhaust setup, remove the tune, and retest after the monitors are ready. |

Sounds like you'll have to load the factory tune and exhaust. I'm about to do this myself.
You have the AA signature with high flow cats? AA sells stubbies that the factory cats weld onto. This way, to put the primary cats back on, you only have to swap that small section and not the whole x pipe. https://store.activeautowerke.com/co...ies-for-e9x-m3 This is the route I'll be going so, i figured I'd throw this out there.

See, the weird thing is...I've already been inspected with this set up (at the dealership) last year and was totally fine.
The issue is only coming up after clearing that one code (which I"m not sure what it is, as it's all Deutsch to me...haha). I'm guessing I'll just drive the car more...my guy said that it might need to be driven 100 miles or so.

Or yes, you may need to complete a few more proper drive cycles. |

Many factors here since you are running aftermarket xpipe and tune. But, if everything is running as it should, try driving on the freeway at 55mph for 5 mins. Easier to do this at night in the slow lane. The tune will have one monitor that never completes, but I think you state allows one monitor to be incomplete.
Since you have the Carly app, you can check readiness monitors before going back into inspection station. It's in "OBD Functions" -> "Continue to OBD Readiness" Also, code CDB7 is edc related, i think you would have passed without clearing this code. |

Regarding the 1 code that you reset; When you clear code, it's a global reset, not just the single code. I did the same thing a couple of years ago & had to do a drive cycle to get readiness restored.

You'll always have at least 1 readiness monitor not ready but thats ok because only 1 still gets you passed. For the 2nd code, you may have not gone through a drive cycle yet. There's a thread here somewhere that discusses the fastest way to get through the drive cycle. IIRC, it involves maintaining steady speeds below 60mph and some idling too.

For us Cali guys the only monitor code that can be not ready for us is the Evap monitor. All other monitors have to show green..

Took a nice 140mile roundtrip drive on slow roads...scanned it the next day and all was good.
Passed inspection today, woo hoo!

Move to Florida Raek, no inspections here. I put your clicking sound thread on through my stereo and told the wife we were having issues. She was ready to diagnose "our" problem. Good luck with that, it sounds awful.

Despite having gone through this same thing recently having to put close to 100 miles on car just to pass inspection I still believe there should be a way to generate readiness and go through there monitors while being stationary. Driving the car just to do all of that is ridiculous.
On vw/Audi cars it's done with a simple program. I'm sure bmw is not going to drive your car for 100 miles if they do any repairs and you ask for a state inspection. |

I kept my eyes open while driving for a few minutes and noticed that every car in my vicinity was fairly new. Certainly not many were older than my 2011 M3. I'm not an expert in knowing the year built for all vehicles but it was fairly obvious. I'm thankful Florida is a no inspection state as it seems to be a waste of time overall. A couple of links below on the subject.

Google BMW emissions driving cycle. There seem to be 2 types shown. I'm not sure which one is better, but you don't want to go over 3,000 RPM while doing either one.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."
