!!! ADVICE PLS !!! - 666M on 2018 330I M Sport

Hi Everyone,

I am seeking your expert advice on whether the 666M (265/30/20 front and 285/30/20 rear) with ET29 (front) and ET40 (rear) would fit for my 330I M sport (2018)?

There's a set of OEM 666M from a 2018 M3 competition selling in Sydney. I am keen for the wheels but just want to check if it fits before pressing the button.

Thanks.

The outer shoulder of a 265/30/20(26.3") at ET29, may rub while turning at or near full lock. All corners will poke and 285/30/20(26.7") rear may rub fenderlip under compression while turning on grade transitions.

since 666M are not that light for being forged, weight along with heavier tires tgat are also wider and taller, which increase rolling resistance and heighten gearing, will make your 4-cyl feel a bit slothy if you care.

I'd swap tires to 235/35/20, 265/30/30 would mitigate all of the negatives listed above. Let us know how it works out and if the fitment issues are as described.

Thanks alohassurftoad - seems like have to spend a couple thousand more on the tyres. Sorry to sound silly - is it be because tyres are too wide (265/30, 285/30)? The seller is saying the tyres are the set that he took from his 2918 m3.

Yes 265/30-285/30 are girthy...M3/4 are wider with flared fenders, compared to F3/4 series. Things will be about as tight as it gets. it may or may not rub but will definitely will be slightly poking from flush.

If it rubbed, i believe it would be just grazing and minimal, so you could conceivably try it if you don't mind that possibility. Adding negative camber and lowering the car slightly with a stiffer spring actually helps to reduce the rubbing possibilty and improves overall appearance regardless, especially with 20" wheels.

Personally, I would change tire size to assure there will be no rub. To save money, id put the 265/30/20(26.3") front tires on the rear rims, which will be slightly stretched but the tire shoulder will be flush. buy a new pair of front tires in 235/35/20(26.5") or 255/30/20(26.0"). 235/35 are stretched on 9" but it reduces fenderwell gap and tire shoulder will be flush. 255/30 fits perfect on 9", provides more front grip and less understeer, however tire shoulder will still be poking lightly.

Sell the 285 rears in local classifieds to recoup some cost.

I went with 245/35 & 275/30 on my F32 with 666m's. I'm lowered on Dinan springs and it rubs the fender liner.

does it rub while turning? if yes, it is likely because 245/35/20 is 26.8" tall and at ET29, the increased radius causes a bigger arc when the wheels are pivoting around the kingpin axis.

reducing the tire diameter or increasing the offset would resolve this. in your case, reducing the tire size one notch to 235/35/20(26.5") would probably eliminate the rub. it is also the same diameter as 275/30/20(rear) which is better for x-drive transfer case.

Yeah, next go around I'll go with 235/35 to get it closer in diameter to the 275/30. I was going to go with them initially, but they were OOS. No iussues yet (knocks on wood). It rubs that one bolt right at the leading edge, which is like in the driveway turning radius territory and on the liner at full lock.

I just installed bilstein shocks which raised up the front end (marginally) but it helped a bit.i don't rub on road imperfections around town that I use to. But that may also be the increased damping as well.

And you're right, these wheels are heavy.

Edit: Or go with 285/30, as I don't rub at all in the rear.

Went up to 285/30/20 Falken FK510, to match the 245/35 in the front. Happy to report, there is still no rubbing (in the rear).

Contact patch is more square (wider) than the OEM installed MPSSs that were on it, two tires ago.
